We initially met briefly when we were both in high school serving in children’s ministry at the same church. After some years passed and our paths crossed again in college while serving in youth ministry, Devon reached out to Kylie on Instagram by responding to nearly every story she posted. Conversation quickly picked up and carried on for weeks. A month after reconnecting, Devon officially asked Kylie’s parents for permission to date her on March 16, 2019.
It was a perfect day for a morning hike after an early morning workout. Devon had a week of preparation to “throw her off” with beach dates and dressing up more than usual. He had already coordinated the proposal spot with the dear friend and photographer, and everything was prepared for that day. Kylie definitely knew it was coming, but didn’t know exactly “when.” He met her that morning at the gym with red roses in hopes of continuing to confuse her about the time and place of “popping the question.” After the workout, they drove to Marshall Canyon Trail and began the hike. This was a special trail. It was the very trail that he asked her parents to start dating her 4.5 years prior. Devon’s heart was racing because of the immense anticipation. He knew that she would probably say yes, but he needed to hear her say yes. They continued walking past the wash, heading to the proposal spot. After a couple of minutes, it was time and they finally arrived. Above was a beautiful overpass of 2 large trees, right next to a stream and the main trail. He got down on one knee, and SHE SAID YES!
