Flight

LaGuardia, JFK or Newark

New York City is a major flight destination. We would recommend finding a flight into any of the 3 NYC airports: LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy International, or Newark International Airport (technically lands in New Jersey). From there you can either rent a car or make your way to NYC's Grand Central Terminal to take the train up north.

Grand Central: Metro North to Poughkeepsie

From Grand Central take the Hudson Line on the Metro North to Poughkeepsie Station. This is a commuter train that runs every 15 minutes and on holidays, every hour. It's about a 2-hour train ride north and will drop you off right in the heart of Poughkeepsie a 15-minute walk from the Grand Poughkeepsie Hotel.

New York Penn Station: Amtrak to Poughkeepsie

The Amtrak train runs from New York Penn Station in the heart of NYC. It's slightly quicker than the Metro North getting into the same station but comes at a higher price point. If traveling from Newark Airport, this might be something to consider as NJ Transit will take you from Newark Airport to New York Penn Station (Make sure it's the Penn Station in New York because there's also one in New Jersey—NJ Penn).

Airbnb's are also great for groups of friends of family that want to spend the full weekend together. There are plenty in the area that offer "entire homes" — some that even have pools, hot tubs, and fire pits.
