The Beginning

Opposites attract

Kye and Chad fell in love in high school. From the outside, these two could not appear more opposite. Kye was bright and bubbly, a rule-follower, and lover of school. She liked baking, running, coffee and reading. Chad hated anything with rule and order; he preferred to question the "norms" that everyone else embraced. He liked cars, motorcycles, guns, and doing anything that could get his hands dirty. Chad took an interest in Kye but always told his friends that she was "too sweet and too good" for him. Nevertheless, after being so drawn to her giggle in Spanish class, he decided to give it a shot. After many unsuccessful attempts, Kye agreed to go on a very casual, friendly date. And, to Kye's surprise... the rest was history! Kye immediately felt her heart open up to Chad. She loved his honesty, integrity, and humble strength. Most importantly, Kye loved the way Chad made her feel a sense of adventure and excitement. Since this date, they've shared a love for the outdoors, open spaces where the stars are seen, family time, traditions, and humble places. Their hearts are forever intertwined.

A Committment to "Forever"

Snowmobiles, whiskey, bonfires and...diamond rings

Kye and Chad decided to go to the cabins over New Years. Between sipping coffee while watching the sunrise, cross country skiing on Long Lake, snowmobiling the trails of Detroit Lakes, and finishing the nights by the bonfire with whiskey and walleye, it was a magical trip. One evening, they went out by the fire to watch the sunset. To Kye's total surprise, Chad got on one knee and asked Kye to marry him. It was perfect in every way; just the two of them, enjoying their favorite place together, surrounded by a place that tells a tale of many more love stories. Kye's ring belonged to Chad's great grandmother, whom Chad adored. Chad says that Kye is strong-willed, tough, and stubborn - just like his grandma.

The Wedding on Long Lake

Madsen Family Cabins

Ironically enough, when Kye was a little girl she said that she would only ever marry a man if he would agree to getting married at the Madsen Family Cabins in Minnesota. Years passed and Kye totally forgot about this condition. The rustic log cabins on Long Lake have always been the most special place to Kye, and she knew Chad was her forever life-partner when he first came to the cabins and loved them as much as she did. Kye didn't have to tell him why the cabins meant so much - Chad knew it when he went through Grandpa Roger's shed, when he had coffee with a sunrise sparkling over Long Lake, when he saw old pictures of Kris and Kristi celebrating their first anniversary at the cabins. After the proposal, they both just knew that they wanted to get married on Long Lake, surrounded by their closest family and friends.
