Was it fate? Maybe. Serendipitous? Possibly. Was it God authored? MOST DEFINITELY. Hezekiah Sovankiry Chhan (lovingly referred to as Kai by his bride) was born in a refugee camp in Thailand on October 4, 1990 to Sovan & Sarah Chhan. The Chhan family moved from their homeland of Cambodia to the United States when Kai was 3 years old. After settling in Shelbyville, Kentucky, Kai graduated high school and joined the Marines, where he served for four and a half years. After the Marines, Kai was met by the faithful love of Jesus. Kai served as a youth minister at his local church prior to starting school full time. Krystle Marie Tuggle was born on December 20, 1988 to Ron and Malinda Tuggle in Nashville, Tennessee. Krystle grew up on a farm in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. After college Krystle worked as a Child Life Specialist at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital prior to pursuing her newly found passion for real estate. Many days, nights and hours of waiting for “Mr. Right” quickly became a rearview mirror perspective. Late one night two people had a short conversation over a dating app about their mutual love for Guatemala. With much cynicism from Krystle, and loving Christ-like persistence from Kai — the walls of cynicism began to fall and love was established. Krystle and Kai weren’t looking for love that night, however, God truly had a bigger plan that we couldn’t see. Kai told Krystle early on in the relationship, “My 30 years of waiting was not wasted, it was all preparation for you, Krystle.” Krystle and Kai couldn’t be more eager to start a life together, building each day upon the truth of God’s scripture and resting in the grace of their Father.
