We both loved hiking around Rocky Mountain. Estes park is the gateway to the east side of the park. Our first hike together was to Emerald Lake (pictured above). Other great easy hikes in the area are the Lumpy Ridge Short Loop, Lilly Lake loop, and Bear Lake loop. If you don't want to hike, but want to take in breathtaking views, we recommend driving Trail Ridge Road which is only open May- October and is the highest continuous highway in the US. If you don't have a National Parks Pass, entrance fees are $30 per car for one day, or $35 per car for 7 days.
The Stanley Hotel was a filming location for The Shining. You can go in for free, or book a tour to see some of the filming locations. They also have a hedge maze, although not the same one in the film. The hotel also is a great place to eat.
Top notch brewery, although certainty not the only brewery in town! They typically have a food truck outside as well
You can start a horseback ride through the mountains right from the Estes Park YMCA property!
Estes Park has festivals almost every weekend in the fall. This festival will be going on the same weekend as our wedding.
