Our story began October 15th, 2014. Kristen was attending DePaul University and forgot to pack a snack to eat in between classes. Hangry, but still wanting to be healthy, Kristen walked over to a GNC (General Nutrition Center) to grab a protein bar. Upon entering, Kristen was greeted by store employee Nick, who is also Mike's best friend. Nick asked if she needed help. Kristen told him "no I'm okay, I'm only here to grab a Quest Protein Bar." Mike overheard the conversation and lead Kristen to the "right direction." (*Eye roll*- it was a small store, Kristen didn't need help). Mike rang Kristen out at the cash register, where he proceeded to ask her many questions about her life. The conversation ended with Mike giving Kristen his phone number. Mike likes to say "The ball was in Kristen's court, and she took the bait." Kristen proceeded to text him later that day, and the rest was history!
Mike & I celebrated Valentines Day 2020 together at a restaurant in Chicago called Maple & Ash. Knowing I would be all dolled up for a holiday, specifically having my nails done, Mike saw this as a perfect opportunity to propose. He strategized a plan with our friend Adobe who worked at the restaurant to propose when she brought out the dessert platter. However, I oddly did not order dessert that night, so Adobe had to bring out a “special dessert” that was covered up. When I opened the covering, there was the ring on the platter.. I was in shock. Mike grabbed the ring from the plate and got down on one knee to formally propose. That weekend in Chicago, it was NBA All-Star weekend. The commotion we caused from the proposal caught one celebrities attention. After the proposal, Derek Rose came up to Mike to ask him if I said yes..Pretty sure Mike was speechless until we got to Brickhouse where Mike threw a surprise engagement party for us! It was so awesome that all my friends and family came out to celebrate us on Valentines Day. It truly was one of the best nights ever & one I will never forget!
