One of the reasons we love Grand Rapids is all the activities it offers. We've compiled a list of a few things we think you will enjoy but, especially if it's your first time visiting, we encourage you to walk around downtown and explore beyond just these recommendations.

The Rosa Parks Circle ice rink is a treasured, and recently renovated, winter destination in Grand Rapids. You can make reservations or walk-up. Cost ($4 for adults) includes ice skate rental. There are shoe bins, lockers ($0.25), and public restrooms available. Many restaurants are in close proximity as well!

Grand Rapids is affectionately known as "Beer City, USA," winning multiple awards over the last decade, including "#1 Best Beer City" by USA Today from 2021-2023. Venture outdoors and discover the beauty of nature with wintertime walks. Indoors and out, the gardens' magnificent grounds sparkle with 350,000 lights.

Great Lakes Invitational - Van Andel Arena

Great Lakes Invitational - Van Andel Arena

The Great Lakes Invitational (GLI) is an annual four-team National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men's ice hockey tournament first played in 1965. This year, it will include Michigan Tech, Michigan State, Ferris state, and Alaska Fairbanks. Games will be on December 28 and 29. There will be a public open skate from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM those days at Rosa Parks Circle with pep bands and mascots. Tickets go on sale in September and may be purchased at the box office or at Ticketmaster.com.

Located inside the recently renovated and historic, "The B.O.B," Dr. Grins has offered comedy shows with nationally acclaimed stand-up comedians since 1997. The B.O.B. also offers a brewery, a wood-fired pizzeria, and more so you can make a full evening out of it.
