Our favorite local pizza place--their cheese plate is to die for. Stop by Sweet Cow for dessert after dinner if you're in the mood for ice cream. Or walk a few blocks away and get Punch Buggy Shave Ice (this is open seasonally, so check hours to make sure they're still open in October).
Wandering Pearl Street is great for shopping, people watching, and food options. A fun way to spend a morning or afternoon! Definitely check out the Dushanbe Tea House when you're in the area--a cool building with an even cooler story.
One of our favorite local casual places to eat. Kristen, a French Dip connoisseur, counts theirs as the best French Dip she's ever had.
There are lots of great hikes in the area--this one is pretty easy and there are lots of options for how far you might want to go. If you're from lower altitude, bring lots of water!
One of our friends (bonus points if you can find out who at the reception) calls this place "Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory for adults." If you're a cheese-loving adult, it definitely is. There's a huge cold walkthrough area filled with cheese, and a cute store with other tasty treats and wine. A fun shopping experience, and a great place to pick up items for a picnic lunch to take on a hike.
GO HERE AND GET CROISSANTS OR KOUIGN-AMANN (pronounced "queen aman"). Seriously, you won't regret it. One of the best bakeries we've ever been to, and they have the constant line out the door to prove it. You can order ahead online, though, and enjoy the outdoor seating if it's a beautiful fall day. Kristen also recommends the "Moxie Mist": a delightful tea latte.
If you like Kristen's stories about working at the library, stop by and see where they all come from! This is an awesome library (if Kristen does say so herself) in the center of Louisville's small, but adorable, downtown. Stop by, see the library, and have lunch at one of the many great restaurants nearby. (And grab something from Moxie while you're there--more on that in its own entry.) There's also cute local shops (check out the Singing Cook and Pitter Patter) and a free museum in the vicinity.
This was originally where we wanted to have our wedding, but it turns out we know too many awesome people we had to invite to fit into their space. Yummy food, great cider, and beautiful views. Definitely worth a visit!
A favorite of Alex's from his days living in Fort Collins, we both recommend the Boulder location. The combination of sweet pork with creamy habanero sauce is the way to go, in our book, regardless of which option you choose (Alex loves the enchiladas, Kristen usually gets the quesolle). We seriously considered having them cater our wedding, so this is high on our recommendation list!
This is our favorite fancy place to eat for special occasions. Their Sizzling Shrimp is our favorite appetizer and something we eat every time we visit.
A tasty, completely gluten-free restaurant in our little community. It's become a favorite for us when we're in the mood for something slightly upscale.
Tasty brunch place--there are also locations in Boulder and a brand new one in Erie depending on where you're staying. Beignets for the table are a must, and everything here is tasty!
Beautiful chocolates that are tasty! This has become our go to place to get chocolates for gifts; they are gorgeous.
A consistently great place to eat in a surprising location (strip mall). We love the salmon here (seriously, so delicious), but everything on the menu is excellent. One of our faves!
Great fried chicken and sides. Comfort food at its finest.
