How We Became KRay

Tooth or No Tooth

Four years ago, Kathleen was living in Miami, Ray was living in Atlanta. They both worked for WeWork. Kathleen managed people and assets. Ray ensured the assets stayed in good shape from an Operational standpoint. They spoke often, but Kathleen only knew him as "Ray Maggi with a WeWork logo" since he was the only employee without a profile photo. Ray only knew her as the new good looking girl in Miami that everyone spoke about. They were both go-getters with positive attitudes. Fast forward 5-6 months, Kathleen and Ray see each other for the first time on a zoom call! Ray was wearing a baseball hat and T-shirt. They had many meetings after that, no matter the day, or who was on the call, Ray always showed up wearing the same thing. In August of 2019, Ray was flying into Miami for work. Ray walked in, and guess what he was wearing? You got it! Plus, his "cut" jeans that Kathleen later found out this wasn't a one off. He also cuts his shirts, and shorts #trendsetter. During his trip to Miami, they learned a lot about each other. He played baseball in college, she played softball, and they played in the same conference. They were both Yankees fans, had Jeeps, were runners, and Kathleen’s middle name is Rae! They had a lot in common and the conversations were effortless. Ray flew back to Atlanta after a few days, and they continued to talk. Over the months they got to know each other more on a personal level. At one point, Ray used any excuse he could to talk to Kathleen. He secretly referred to her as his work wife. Kathleen often attempted to throw flirtatious comments his way, while maintaining a professional conduct, but he never quite realized. So as she does, Kathleen rushed to do something rash. One night, Kathleen was at her friend Nikola’s house talking about "RayBae" (this is what she called him at work). Ray was buying his first home in Atlanta and Nikola convinced her to send him a house warming present. After a lot of back and forth, Kathleen sent him a memorable gift (ask one of us at the wedding what she sent) and he finally got the gist. March of 2020, Kathleen was flying home to DE and had purposely scheduled a layover in ATL. Ray and Kathleen decided to meet during the layover, grab a bite to eat, and get to know each other outside of work. A week before Kathleen flew out, Ray started panicking. She presumed because they worked together this could be a reason why, so did some digging. The reason ended coming as a surprise. The story goes… R: “Remember when I told you months ago I got my tooth knocked out? Well I was supposed to have it taken care of by now, but it's not fixed." K: “When you say it's not fixed, what do you mean?" R: “I don't have a front tooth." Kathleen quickly googles "man without front tooth." After careful consideration she carry’s out the plan and lands in Atlanta, wearing an outfit she had planned 3 weeks earlier. Ray gets out of his car wearing, well, you know what he was wearing. Ray planned a day at the park to hang out. After about an hour, it was time to grab some food, Ray then reaches in his pocket and pulls out a retainer case. Then he reached in his mouth and pull out a retainer that has a fake tooth in it, and all the photos Kathleen had googled, couldn't have prepared her for this moment. Both at a loss for words, they immediately laughed. Ray took this as a sign that it was ok to never put his tooth back in and he embraced his "Toothless Ray" look with such confidence. After a successful park day getting to know one another, Ray finally mustered up the courage to finally kiss Kathleen, only to then be interrupted by a Buddhist trying to selling books. The Buddhist yells “Woah! What a Dynamic Duo! You’re a beautiful couple!" The two were inseparable after that. Ray eventually got a front tooth, moved to Miami, then to DMV together, and now this Dynamic Duo is getting married! Tooth or no tooth!
