Compared with other cities in Mexico, San Miguel de Allende is safe to walk around during both the day and night. San Miguel de Allende is often noted as one of the safest Mexican cities for tourists which is usually backed up by its low crime rate score. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, San Miguel de Allende reportedly has a population of 139,000 with over 10,000 expat residents
Credit cards and pesos (cash) are widely accepted. Pesos can be easily obtained from one of the many ATM machines using a credit or debit card. Although you may pay with US dollars in some of San Miguel's hotels, restaurants and stores, the exchange rate they will give you is less than favorable so I wouldn't recommend it.
Yes! Please check the Travel & Stay and our Things To Do & Places to Eat pages for more recommendations. We do recommend booking a place through Airbnb or VRBO. There are tons of great options for various group sizes, price ranges and many are within walking distance to many things! Its best to look for places in Zona Centro near the Parqu Penito Juares or Jardin Allende.
