It was my first time being a "weekend warrior" as the active duty say. I knew no one. I was trying to make friends. Kolby told me the first time he saw me he said, "That's a pretty light skin right there, but why she have those BIG braids in her hair." He told me he usually don't go for girls with braids like that because he said that's ratchet but he said he accepted it for me because I was cute and we all got a little ratchet in us. The next day after we finished our medical requirements, he asked me to hold his weapon because we cannot bring our weapons into the latrines (restrooms). I held his weapon, then he asked me for my number in case our platoon sergeant asked where he went. I gave him my number and ever since then he's been my friend. He always told me it's important to become someone friend before you become their girlfriend/boyfriend. On our first date, we went to Oceana Grill in New Orleans. I had to be to work the next morning at 0515 and I didn't leave till about 0330 and I didn't care. I enjoyed his company so much. Ever since then I've been having butterflies!
