To many this may come as a surprise, but the first time Thomas and Caroline met was in San Antonio, TX at the University of the Incarnate Word, when Caroline was hosting an Invisible Children screening. Thomas at the time was a part of the Roadie Team that was sent out to share about the organization, while Caroline was a Junior in college at UIW. Although this was the first time they met, friends find it funny that by the time the team departed they had hardly exchanged words. All of that changed in the Summer of 2012 in San Diego, CA when they unexpectedly "re-met" while both working for Invisible Children. That Summer was full of building new friendships with some pretty incredible people, trying new foods, having new experiences and unexpectedly finding someone they would one day spend the rest of their lives with. To this day, the two are reminded of God's faithfulness and humbled knowing the amazing things He facilitated to have them cross paths once more. They are very grateful. It is the Summer they will never forget. The place where their adventure began.
The day began with some reluctance to wake up early and leave the house by the future bride, for what she thought was another day with friends. It's one of the things they laugh about most because of all days she chose to sleep in, it was the day her family wanted her out to begin preparing for the engagement. To get her out and about, they attended a local art event downtown and then ate lunch at one of her favorite spots. Then the fun began. Next stop, and the beginning of her Scavenger Hunt was at her former high-school, Antonian College Preparatory. At this time, another group of their friends joined them for what Caroline thought was a fun game planned by Thomas and their friend Chris. They all split into teams, Caroline leaving with her friend Jessica, and the scavenger hunt began. Each destination from that point on was an important piece of their story and full of their favorite places. The final clue led her back home to her parent's house and read, "This is it. You've made it! All that is left to do is to walk in and see the surprise that awaits. There are some people here that would like to say hello. Finally, make your way to the backyard." To her surprise as she walked down the outdoor deck stairs, there awaited their families and closest friends, with the future groom standing in the center holding a bouquet of flowers. He got down on one knee and asked the very important question that would change their lives forever. On October 8, 2016, Caroline said YES.
