Rennie knew Kirsten was in the world 2 years before they met. He searched high and low without success until he started to loose faith in his internal beacon. Then at a 2006 dinner party in Ashland OR he suddenly heard: "Remember the woman we told you about? She's sitting right next to you now." Stunned, he turned to Kirsten with the exclamation: "I know who you are now." Needless to say that stopped the dinner conversation in its tracks. Two years ago, exactly one week before Kirsten's 48th birthday, a knowingness suddenly welled up in her and out of her mouth popped: "You know what I want for my birthday? I want you to ask you to marry me." After 10 years of a relationship that has transcended a 3-decade age difference and took us on an amazing journey of evolution together, it felt right to take this step. So here we are getting married now.
Since Kirsten made the proposal a birthday wish, it didn't come as a surprise. What she didn't expect was for Rennie and Bea, his beloved sister, to conspire to make it a truly memorable and unexpected event. We were heading to Portland to spend a few days with Bea and Mike during Kirsten's Birthday. Of course Bea's first question to Rennie was: "Do you have a ring?" "Well no." At the hotsprings, when Rennie opened the little ring box with a most beautiful ring that came from Bea's first wonderful marriage to her best friend (Michael had passed away before Kirsten could meet him), it was Kirsten's turn to collect her jaw from the floor and find a tissue box.
