We each found our way to Miami University for different reasons and at different times, but luckily, we found each other at the perfect time. Jessica had just made it through a challenging first year in her new job and Kirk had just finished his coursework for his Ph.D and almost returned to Florida. Thankfully, he chose to stay in Oxford to write his dissertation. After connecting online, Kirk and Jessica planned a date. They met at Kofenya, Kirk's favorite Oxford coffee shop. It was a sweaty, humid day in August and Jessica was regretting wearing her hair down after her post-work shower. She arrived at Kofenya a couple of minutes late and Kirk was already seated with his usual black tea. After greeting each other, Jessica took a much needed moment to order herself a drink and dap the sweat that had already accumulated. Once her drink was ready, Jessica returned to Kirk's table and the rest was magic. We had an easy rapport from the first moment. As two awkward souls, that's a hard thing to find. After enjoying each other's company over iced beverages, we decided to continue to dinner. Kirk showed marked restraint when we were seated with the Mets playing on the tv behind Jessica. He remained focused and the date continued wonderfully. After dinner, we weren't interested in parting ways so we took a walk down High Street. For anyone who knows Jessica, this was a lot to ask: a walk on a humid August evening just when the mosquitos came out. It was so worth it. Ever since that day in August, Kirk and Jessica have spent much of their time together.
