We both swiped right!

A cliché' love story

We both swiped right on June 5th, 2017. I sometimes wish that we had a better beginning to our relationship, but I believe that we have done a pretty good job making up for it these past four years. Two days after that fateful swipe (7/7/17), we decided to meet up for a beer. I showered and got all pretty and she apparently was just coming off of work and wasn't as "fresh" as I was, which is something I still joke with her about to this day. She made my soul laugh. If you ask either of us about what it was the first that time we met each other, we'd both say that the other person made their soul laugh; a sound that is almost unrecognizable the first time that you hear it. Those laughs turned into sparks. Those sparks turned into a flame. That flame grew into a beaming force of light that has guided us through many dark tunnels and has ultimately lead us to the alter. We spent the next year getting to know each other. I had just bought a house and she had just moved in with her sister, so we both in any rush to abandon our newly independent life and move in with each other. On July 1st, 2018, Sammie, Toby, and I, welcomed Kimmy and Olive into our home, and although it was not the smoothest of transitions, we all grew to accept each other and their habits. It was during this part of our story that we really relied on that bright flame to help us through extremely difficult moments. In the span of just over a year, we had moved in with each other, we both lost family members that we were very close to, and in between the two human losses, we also lost my cat, Sammie. We were sad and angry at times and also the most vulnerable we had both been in a very long time. We saw that flame turn into an eternal flame during those dark months as no matter how hard life blew it's wind at us, it flickered but never went out. If one of us couldn't see anything but darkness, the other one held up the light. **continued on the next story**

When 2 became 1

Unbenounced to Kimmy, I had purchased an engagement ring (I went to Jareds!) in December of 2018, but didn't propose until July 7th of that following year. We were making our way back from a trip to New Hampshire, when we came upon the "Beer Naked Brewery" in Marlboro, VT. The delicious craft beer and the spectacular view, make it the perfect spot for us to move our relationship to the next level. After she took that infamous and oblivious engagement selfie and said yes (I actually have no idea what I said), we had another 11 hours of driving and the chance to sit with our life-changing decision. Luckily, she didn't have any regrets and we kicked off of a life of frugal bliss by using a gift card chili's in Niagara Falls, NY. We had hoped for an 8/22/20 wedding, but due to the pandemic, we rescheduled it for June 26th, which just so happens to be the 6th year anniversary of legalizing gay marriage in the U.S. A perfect and fitting day to celebrate that love did indeed win.
