Although we had met in passing at least twice before this day (and also over a group text), we consider Picnic Day 2015 to be the day that we "officially" met. Kim was living with her close friend, Courtney Chason, in Davis and Andrew was living in Sunnyvale with his roommate and close friend, Ian Rosenthal. Courtney and her sister Erika had met Andrew in 2013 while he was wrapping up his last month of school at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They immediately became close friends and continued to keep in touch and visit each other regularly after he moved to the Bay Area. In one of these trips to Davis, Andrew had the experience of attending his first Picnic Day in 2014--Kim was already a seasoned veteran at this point--and had such a good time that when he was invited to partake in a second go at the event the following year, he jumped at the chance! For those of you who don't know what the infamous UC Davis Picnic Day is, it is a big festival that takes place at the UC campus every year in the spring with good food, good company, and good times! There are parades, food tents, and activities for the whole family! It was at that fateful Picnic Day in 2015 that we finally got to get to know each other, and the rest is history... :)
It was the last day of our 14-day Northern European trip/cruise. We were in Bruges, Belgium. It had been raining most of the morning, so we were just wandering around, drinking beer and sampling chocolates. Andrew insisted we all take couples pictures on Bonifacius Bridge, a quaint tiny, old bridge that crossed a little canal behind a local cathedral. There was even a guitarist playing soft, melodic music while we were taking pictures. We were the last couple in our group to go onto the bridge for pictures. Much to Kim's surprise, Andrew suddenly dropped to one knee and brought out the ring. After the initial shock and surprise, Kim said "Of course!" Talk about the trip of a lifetime... :) We are so excited to start this next chapter in our lives, and cannot wait to celebrate with our closest family and friends! See you in wine country!
