Friends and family, It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that Attiya’s father, Shahid Khan, passed away yesterday evening. He was 68. Though he has been battling illness for almost a decade, his death was unexpected, and we are still in shock. After discussions with both of our families, we have made the difficult decision not to proceed with the planned celebration of our marriage this Friday and Saturday. All events will be postponed to a later date, likely in the coming year or so, and may change in format and location. We will be in touch when we have those details. If you are in the Seattle area, you are welcome at Shahid’s funeral on Wednesday afternoon. Details will be posted soon on our wedding website. Wedding gifts, for which we are extremely grateful, will be returned to their senders promptly. We have been in touch with Zola, our wedding website provider and registry host, and have confirmed that the vast majority can be refunded directly to the credit card that was originally used to make the purchase. Please contact Kyle at khanmullinswedding@gmail.com if you have any questions. Thank you for the support and love you all have shown both of us throughout this wedding planning process. We are proud to call each other husband and wife after our legal wedding last week officiated by Kyle’s father in Boston. We intend to carry out the Islamic marriage ceremony (nikkah) sometime this summer, and we hope to celebrate our union with as many family and friends as possible at an appropriate time in the future. All the best, Kyle and Attiya Khan-Mullins
We first met at Dartmouth College in 2020. Attiya was studying government while Kyle was a history major, and we were both members of the War and Peace Fellows Program. During the throes of winter in Hanover, we were both assigned to the same group project—and, shocker, nobody else contributed! We got lucky, though: That mess of a group project helped us realize we were a match made in nerd heaven. Attiya graduated in 2022 and moved to Boston to work as a paralegal at a small law firm. Kyle graduated a year later and started at Forbes magazine, where he reports on money in politics. We got engaged in September 2023 and are excitedly planning our next steps together. Attiya will head off to pursue her J.D. in the fall at the University of Washington School of Law, and Kyle will join her in moving to the west coast! We hope you'll come join us to celebrate before Attiya buries herself in books once again. See you soon!
