Question

Do I need to join for the whole week?

Answer

Nope! But we would suggest arriving no later than December 12th so that you can join us on the shuttle to the lake on the 13th. After the wedding, we are going to hang out at the lake and explore some of the other towns until the 20th. If you need to leave earlier, you can easily book a shuttle back to Antigua on https://guatego.com/ - we can help with arrangements if needed!

Question

What lodging do I need to book?

Answer

December 10-13th: Antigua, Guatemala There are tons of Airbnbs and boutique hotels to choose from in Antigua - and pretty much everything in town is walkable! December 13-15th: Hotel Isla Verde We rented out the entire hotel for the wedding weekend - so no need to book anything for these dates! December 15th - 20th: Surrounding Villages at Lake Atitlan After the wedding (15th-20th), we'd recommend staying at Casa del Mundo in Jaibalito. https://lacasadelmundo.com/ - a few of our guests have already booked rooms here and we'll be staying at an Airbnb nearby! If you prefer to venture off on your own, there are great Airbnbs in Jaibalito, San Marcos, and San Juan La Laguna. The lake is more spread out and it's harder to find accommodations, but we have lots of ideas and recs to share - so please feel free to reach out to us!

Question

How do I get from place to place?

Answer

Guatemala City to Antigua: You can easily grab an Uber from the airport in Guatemala City and meet us in Antigua - it's not too expensive and the safest way to travel. Getting Around Antigua: Antigua is a very walkable city! And it feels very safe, even at night. But Ubers are available as well. There are some great spots a little outside of the city that require Ubering. Antigua to Lake Atitlan: We will reserve a couple of shuttles to transport us from Antigua, through the mountains, and to Lake Atitlan. It might be a bit of a bumpy ride but the views are unbeatable! Once we arrive at the lake, we'll meet at the public dock and hop aboard a few "lanchas" (boat taxis) to take us to Hotel Isla Verde. It might sound like a long trek, but it's beautiful and exciting! If you need to travel on a different day, you can book a shuttle via https://guatego.com/ Getting Around Lake Atitlan: Lake Atitlan is home to more than 12 unique villages, many of which are only accessible by boat. Depending on where you stay, you can either go out to the dock and wave down a public boat taxi, or call a private boat taxi to pick you up. If you stay at a hotel or Airbnb, you can ask for more specific recommendations.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

December has some of the best weather of the year in Guatemala, with warm, dry days and little to no rain! Definitely pack a swimsuit. It gets a bit cold at night, so bring some warm layers too. If you want to join us for a day hike in Antigua to see some active volcanos, pack accordingly.

Question

What is the wedding attire?

Answer

Lake Atitlan is known by the Mayans as "the place where the rainbow gets its color" !! We love how colorful and vibrant this place is and encourage you to wear some bright, fun colors to the wedding. Don't worry about anything too fancy - think "colorful, casual cocktail attire" and feel free to get creative and express yourself! PS... Corinne will probably try to get everyone to jump in the lake at some point so keep that in mind or keep a swimsuit on hand lol

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Swimsuits, a fun and colorful outfit for the wedding, hiking clothes for a day hike (if you want to join), some layers for cooler evenings, bug spray, sunscreen... Text us with any questions!

Question

Where else should I visit in Guatemala?

Answer

If you have time to explore more of Guatemala, here are a few ideas/recs! 1. Tikal National Park: Mayan ruins in Northern Guatemala, surrounded by dense jungle and incredible wildlife. Fly to Flores and stay there - a colorful, island town on Lake Peten Itza. 2. Rio Dulce: A beautiful river on the Caribbean coast of Guatemala. Stay along the river and explore the area by kayak or boat. 3. Semuc Champey: A nature preserve with a natural 300 m limestone bridge, under which passes the Cahabón River. Atop the bridge is a series of stepped, turquoise pools, a popular swimming attraction. 4. Volcan Acatenango Overnight Hike: We've always wanted to do this. Easily accessible from Antigua. It's known to be a difficult hike but you can see the active volcano erupting lava from the top! https://oxexpeditions.com/tours/acatenango-overnight-hike/
