We owe our love to our favorite matchmaker, Katy Z! Here's the story... Ian had marked himself "Going" to a Facebook event that was a Luke Bryan concert at Rockefeller Center for the Today Show. Katy, a mutual friend and Emily's then roommate, also wanted to attend the concert and saw that Ian was going. Katy recruited Emily to join and the three met up on the subway platform at 5AM to catch a train to Rock Center. When they got to the line to enter the plaza, Katy offered to do a coffee run around the corner. She took her time at the coffee shop so Ian and Emily could get to know each other. A solid set up. They caught the concert, it rained, Ian wore a poncho, then everybody went about their days. Ian asked Katy if he could have Emily's phone number, and the rest is history!
Emily was performing in a new musical, called Fly, out in San Diego. Ian had come out to visit right before Valentine's Day, and he surprised Emily by saying he was planning on coming back in a few weeks for opening weekend. Both Ian and Emily's families coincidentally had planned to come visit and see the show for opening weekend, so it only made sense for Ian to visit again. Ian had been in contact with Emily's castmates to plan a gathering and give Emily an excuse to dress up so that Ian could pop the question in front of both families. The women of Fly decided to have a garden party with a champagne toast the night before the show opened to celebrate each other as well as International Women's Day...atleast that's what Emily thought.
"No stress...my love for you is never in doubt. We'll get a little place in Harlem and we'll figure it out" is something Ian would always sing to Emily when it came up on the soundtrack. It comes in when Hamilton is telling Eliza how he's going to take care of her and talks about their life together. When Ian and Emily moved in together, Our Little Place In Harlem (OLPIH) was born...the hashtag, the Instagram and Twitter handles, the domain...nerd alert. They just moved into their dream apartment in Harlem, making OLPIH a reality. Check out their Instagram and be sure to save the hashtag for all wedding festivities!
In the age of covid Ian and Emily wanted to have a special and meaningful event to celebrate their lives coming together with their loved ones, while keeping everyone as safe and healthy as possible. Ian and Emily exchanged vows in front of their immediate families on June 4th, 2021. They cannot wait to share their love and celebrate their marriage with all of their loved ones, when it feels safe to do so!
*A note from the newlyweds* At last, we cannot wait to celebrate our marriage with all of our loved ones! We will be holding a cocktail reception in New York City for everyone who can make it! We cannot wait to share our wedding video with everybody and take part in several family traditions near and dear to our hearts. We thank you for your patience and hope you can join us this summer in the city!
