We met in 2004, I was in Weequahic Park at the Basketball Court with my son and his friends watching them play basketball, and Derrick was at the basket ball court talking with his friends. He stopped talking with his friends and came over where I was and starting talking to me through our conversation we found out we had similar interest we both ride Motorcycles and where in Clubs. He seemed to be a real nice guy so I gave him my number and we kept in touch. Over the years we remained friends talking on the phone and seeing each other out at events. He was always so nice and sweet to me, I always considered him to be a Big Teddy Bear. Until one day he called me up in (November/2020) to talk and during the conversation he said “ I’m single and you’re single we both got needs let’s take this to the next level.” (Of course my initial reaction was to laugh because he was a jokester) but I knew he was serious. I figured he has always been nice and respectful towards me so why not. After talking, dating, and spending some time together We took a chance at us being more than Just Friends.

It was Saturday 7/29/2023, The day my family and I was having the first annual Griffin Family BBQ it was at our house. There was food, music, fun, the sky was gray and it looked like it was about to rain, so Derrick yelled it’s time for a group family photo. My family and friends made their way to the front porch so we can take the photo. Once the photo was taken and before we can make our way to the backyard my brother Jermaine grabs me and begin to make a speech. At the end of the speech my brother says we have a new addition to the family and when I turn around to see who the new addition was Derrick was on one knee with a ring in his hand I started screaming my family was screaming I moved back and shook my head yes he put the ring on my finger and we sealed it with a kiss. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you.
