Flight
Keep in mind when you fly into NZ from USA you will lose 2 days. i.e. leaving on Feb 5th will have you arriving on the 7th. We recommended giving yourself a day to settle into the time difference so arriving no later than the 6th would be beneficial, meaning flying out of USA on the 4th.
Rental Car
In NZ we drive on the left side of the road and use roundabouts as well as stop signs. Be mentally prepared for this if you plan on renting a car. Uber will be your friend while in Auckland (standard Taxis are expensive in NZ), and you can also purchase a bus card if you feel like braving the public transportation which isn't all that bad. If you're still keen on a rental, picking up upon arrival at the airport will be your best option, and if you want to travel outside of Auckland then you should plan on renting a car. Getting to and from the wedding venue we would suggest Ubering.
Travel Note
You will be needing data to get around via Uber, which means getting an international phone plan though your current carrier, or buying a NZ Sim card once you arrive at the airport. Having access to Google maps will be beneficial to you while you're here so we highly recommended having some sort of plan in place for this. Vodafone, Spark, and 2Degrees are the local telcos who all have prepaid SIMS which can be purchased upon arrival at the airport, staff will be more than happy to help you with this.
Train
Public transportation is great in NZ! You can purchase a bus card from any metro station and cruz around town!
Travel Note
You can easily use your current US cards but keep in mind there will be a conversion charge typically around 3% per transaction depending on your bank, almost all NZ establishments are card friendly. Otherwise, You will need to exchange money to acquire NZD, or open a travel cash card which contains NZD.
Hotel
The wedding is taking place in the suburb of Narrow Neck, which is on the North Shore of Auckland City. There are few hotels on the North Shore, majority Airbnbs. If you want the amenities a Hotel offers, we recommend staying near the viaduct in the city centre. Staying in the city is only a 20-30 min taxi/Uber to the wedding, so location is really a matter of preference. Takapuna or Devonport are the main towns on the North Shore, however, you will likely need to book an Airbnb to stay in these areas. Pros are you will be closer to the venue and beaches, cons are there are fewer options for things to do outside of the wedding vs. staying in the city.
