On Memorial Day Weekend of 2016, Michael made an impromptu visit to Chicago to visit his best friend Tom. When Michael texted the Witt crew in Chicago, Kelly was the first to answer and we decided that weekend that we’d see where things could go. {There are faint recollections of a night out years earlier that we decided we would have to date if we ever lived in the same city}. We dated long-distance while Michael was living in Charlotte and Kelly in Chicago, flying thousands and thousands of miles over the course of a year to see each other. Michael moved up to Chicago for 2.5 years and we lived in Lincoln Park together. Just recently in September, we moved down south to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to start a new adventure in a new city together.
We were in Frisco, North Carolina, for our annual beach trip. Michael, Jill and I traveled from Chicago early that morning and it was basically planes, trains and automobiles. Finally, we arrived. Michael suggested we go down to the beach to "look for shells" (which is funny and suspicious looking back) and Jill, knowing what was coming, suggested we take a picture because the lighting was beautiful. Michael quickly realized we were too far in the water for he so pushed us up a bit closer to the shore. Before I knew it, he was on one knee! My parents came down with champagne and we celebrated all week with our beach crew!
