Kelly and Brent were both working at Spark for about a year before Brent left to pursue a new opportunity. As he was wrapping up his last two weeks, Brent suggested that he and Kelly go to his favorite restaurant together for dinner - Honey Butter. Kelly, of course, agreed. She had an inkling that Brent was interested; he would make the rounds around her desk a few times a day to engage in some fun banter. So alas, off they went on their first date on Honey Butter’s patio, which included a projector showing Game 6 of the 2016 World Series onto the building next door (spoiler: Cubs won!). They continue to go there for their anniversary every year, even though the Cubs sadly haven't been played there on a projector since that first date.
Kelly and her family were in Florida for New Year’s. They had gone to dinner, set lanterns off at the beach, and were cheers'ing to the new year at home. As they did, Brent knocked on the door at 12:01. Brent had told Kelly a proposal might be coming in 2020 and wasted no time. Unbeknownst to Kelly, her dad was in on the proposal, so he casually suggested that Kelly get the door to welcome the unknown guest. Kelly being Kelly, she said, “no way Jose,” and he begrudgingly answered the door to let in his future son-in-law. To her complete surprise, the unknown guest was Brent, who proceeded to get down on one knee, and said, "I have something to ask you in 2020." She said yes and the rest is history!
