Overlooking the Vineyard Sound between Woods Hole and Falmouth, Nobska Light is a beautiful place to stop for photos and enjoy the ocean view. Plus, this is where we got engaged! One of our favorite places on Cape Cod, we recommend driving by and stopping for photos, even if just for a few minutes.
The Shining Sea Bikeway hugs the coast from Falmouth to Woods Hole and then beyond to North Falmouth, winding along the Vineyard Sound shoreline. The paved path is mostly level, and there is a convenient bike rental shop (Corner Cycle, 115 Palmer Ave) right near parking at the trailhead in Falmouth. We love to bike from the shop down to Woods Hole and back, with a few stops for photos along the water, of course!
If you're looking for a hike, we recommend the relatively easy trails in Beebe Woods! This charming historic woodland features various dog-friendly walking trails, plus 2 ponds for swimming. The trailhead ends right at our venue, Highfield Hall & Gardens.
We highly recommend strolling the shops and spending an afternoon in the charming fishing village of Woods Hole. Woods Hole is home to the ferry to Martha's Vineyard as well as some of our favorite restaurants on the Cape! Looking for a bite with a view? Captain Kidd and Landfall both offer waterfront seating. In town early and want pastries or coffee? Check out Pie in the Sky Bakery or Coffee Obsession. Last, but certainly not least, don't leave town without getting a lobster taco from Quicks Hole Taqueria.
One of the best parts about this area of the Cape is that it's so easy to catch the ferry to the island of Martha's Vineyard! The Steamship Authority ferry departs regularly from the ferry terminal in Woods Hole and only takes about 45 minutes, making it an easy day trip. No ferry reservations are needed, just simply go to the terminal before they board and purchase a $20 round trip ticket. Once on the island, hop on a bus or rent a bike/vehicle to explore the towns. While much of the island is ironically dry (no alcohol served), we love grabbing a beer at Offshore Ale Co. in Oak Bluffs then browsing the shops and walking along the water. Oak Bluffs is also home to the Painted Ladies, the colorful "gingerbread" cottages that make for great pictures. We also recommend checking out the bridge where Jaws was filmed on your way to Edgartown, another charming village with tons of beautiful shops and restaurants to check out.
If you have a few extra days in town and are looking for an adventure, we highly recommend making the journey to see the island of Nantucket. While Nantucket is further and a bit more difficult to get to than Martha's Vineyard, we love to recommend it as it's unique from any other Cape Cod town and is truly a bucket list place to visit. To get to Nantucket, reserve a space aboard a high speed ferry departing from the town of Hyannis (about 45 minutes down cape). Once on the island, you could spend a whole day in the downtown historic district, where brick lined streets accent the beautiful shops, restaurants, and museums. If you want to venture further, we suggest checking out Cisco brewery, which has a free shuttle from downtown and back. Our absolute favorite thing to do on the island, however, is the Sconset Bluff Walk - a public footpath through the backyards of mansions and above the East Shore Bluffs. Email Kelley for more info!
