In early 2016, encouraged by friends and exhausted by the rat-race that tends to drive DC’s social scene, Omari signed up for a popular dating app in hopes of finding the real deal. After several misadventures he found her page. At first glance she seemed familiar, like maybe they went to high school together. This suspicion only furthered by the larger number of friends they had in common. Intrigued he messaged her, she was smart (witty even), with an adventurous spirit he found captivating right away. “Don’t blow it!” he thought as he asked her to meet him for drinks at a brewery near where he worked. She agreed. They decided to meet at 5, he was early so he could scope the place out, she wasn’t. She admitted she had a work function that ran a little long, it didn’t matter, she was gorgeous! That night they sat and talked and he discovered that she was all that he hoped; sharp, kind, passionate, and fun loving. He found where his heart could call home.
Fed up with DC dudes that weren’t always willing to be sincere in their relationships, Keisha took a break from dating and prayed that God would send her the one. She made a list - things that now ring hilariously accurate. She prayed for a brown-skinned Jason Segel (think Muppet Movie, How I Met Your Mother), that believed in God, went to church, was intelligent and family minded. A stable guy that is caring, loving, attentive and tries. The day after Valentine’s Day in 2016, she signed up (and then signed off then signed up again) for a popular dating app. After first, it was just a joke. A way to spend time and be able to “meet” people that she didn’t see in her day to day life, but one day she came across a blurry picture of a cute guy with a wild curly afro that had over 25 friends in common with her. As she swiped to look at more pictures to see if she knew him, all the pictures were either out of focus or he wasn’t looking at the camera. When she checked the friends, they were all close friends of hers too, she thought she must have met him before. They both liked each other and he was the first to message (I mean at the very least he should “virtually” approach her.) To catch her attention, he asked for her “help” by asking her where she likes to go to listen to Soca, Dancehall and Caribbean music. Keisha got excited discussing places to go on Weds nights and Sunday nights, because the weekends played what was popular in the airwaves. She, in return, asked for a fresh picture. She liked what she saw and even more when they talked.
After talking on the phone for a few weeks, they agreed to meet on St. Patrick’s Day at a brewery after work. Keisha arrived (late) and when she got there, they were mostly out of beer. They laughed because her first three choices were out and he joked that the next date will definitely be better. She raised her eyebrows at his suggestion and enjoyed their conversation. She liked his laugh immediately and how well he listened. At the end of the date, Omari asked if he could take her to an unassumingly delicious dining spot a few days later. Ever the adventurer, she agreed and he took her to what looked like a hole in the wall, but was filled with wall to wall Asian families having numerous celebrations at the best tasting Chinese restaurant ever. He then took her to hookah at a Caribbean Bar. On the next date, Keisha surprised Omari by taking him to a donut shop that had a hidden speakeasy inside. He delighted in the double surprise of his favorite things. Completely different personalities were completely smitten by each other… two years later, Zayden was born in April. They are so excited to make it official and tie the knot in front of their closest friends and families. Blessings to all and thank you for joining us in our public outpouring of love.
