We are getting married!

It was January 2019, yet another cold winter in the midwest. Bhoomi had moved to Indianapolis to be closer to her sister. Kevin was in his first year of internal medicine residency at Indiana University. Kevin—cold, single, and feeling kind of lonely—decided to revisit the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel after a hiatus from dating. To his surprise, a beautiful girl named Bhoomi had matched with him. Unfortunately he didn’t check his chats in time, their chat had expired and messages could no longer be sent. But you see, the app used beans (like coffee beans) as currency and they would give users free beans every once in a while for various holidays like Valentine’s day or National Coffee Day. One could use these beans to re-open expired chats. Kevin, being the sensible man he was, hadn’t been inspired enough by anyone in the past to purchase the in-app currency. However, he did have enough free beans accumulated to open up one expired chat. Kevin couldn’t help but use his beans so that he could chat with Bhoomi, who was a dog lover—she was perfect! Show time! Kevin sent his first message. Bhoomi, as equally discouraged by dating apps, avoided checking her messages and so Kevin got a reply…2 days later. No big deal, right? So Kevin responds and she gets back to him…again—2 days later: “Hey, I don’t check this regularly, want to text? Here’s my number!” Within the week, they had a date at the Hotel Tango Distillery which led to a date playing board games (the game Splendor—which quickly became a classic!). Kevin met Bhoomi’s pup, Molly, and her sister, Tina. Weeks turned into months. Chats turned into connection. Laughter turned into fondness. May 2019, they decided to travel to Hawaii together later in the summer. Was it a mistake to be planning a trip months out? They had become so strong in such a short time, it just felt right. Kevin said “I love you” to Bhoomi for the first time on that trip to the Big Island in their tiny house situated in a lava field. Bhoomi and Kevin met each others’ families. They went to Disney World. Then Peru, where they traversed across the border to Bolivia to reach the otherworldly Uyuni Salt Flats. Not long after, the pandemic struck. Life changed, but Bhoomi and Kevin’s bond only grew as they decided to move in together and get their little buddy, Lilo, in September of 2020. Before they knew it, they wound up in Boston where Kevin had matched for fellowship. In July of 2022, Kevin proposed to Bhoomi at Niagara Falls (a nod to Bhoomi’s favorite show, The Office). They learned how to foster the relationship between Molly and Lilo to become the lovely sisters they are now. They collected mugs, stickers, and silly Christmas ornaments from their travels and experiences. They pushed each other to be better. They learned to cook Japanese cuisine together. They got to travel internationally for the first time since the pandemic to Belize, gawk at the Great Blue Hole, and snorkel in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve amongst turtles, rays, and sharks. Together, they made a home. With a foot out the door, headed to Chicago, they are excited to embark on their next adventure… But first things first, let’s get married!
