Things To Do

Welcome to BRISTOL, RI! It’s not surprising that the town with the oldest 4th of July celebration in the country also has a rich historical culture. The well-preserved waterfront district contains the commercial enterprises, civic buildings, churches, mills, sailors’ shacks and mansions that tell the history of Bristol’s development since its founding in 1680. Originally laid out in 1680, the downtown grid pattern of 4 streets running north to south and 9 streets running eat to west, ending at Bristol Harbor, remains intact today. Bristol is perfectly situated about 12 miles, from both Providence and Newport (about a 25 minute car ride). PROVIDENCE, RI Providence may be the capital of the smallest state in the union, but there is nothing tiny about the cultural punch this city packs. NEWPORT, RI Newport is home to white sand beaches, Gilded Age mansions, vineyards, an old military fort, cultural festivals and museums on topics like art, tennis, history and literature.

Like nearby Newport, Bristol, RI, has a rich maritime history that started over centuries ago. The international sailing community has great admiration for the accomplishments of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company founded in Bristol. The Herreshoff Museum is also home to the America’s Cup Hall of Fame that honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to yachting’s most distinguished competition. (Mostly for the Hill's and Briana, and any of our other seafaring friends!)
