I responded to a DM! Like the millennials we are, we met on Social media. Instagram to be specific. We shared a mutual friend in real life as well as on the popular app. We began following each other back in 2017 and over time we became more aware of each other through the content we each posted. We liked a few photos here and there but no one shot their shot until 2020.
Our first date was perfectly imperfect. Brenton did his research to find the perfect activity for a first date. He landed on a cool bar located in downtown Riverside. He picked me up from my house at 7:00 pm to start our date after a few months of texting and Instagram DMs. We pulled up, he opened my car door and we were immediately stopped by a "closed" sign. We got back in the car, and called around to see where we could go with most, if not all dine in restaurants being closed. Fortunately, we only made a few calls before we landed on my favorite restaurant. There we were, during the peak of a world pandemic, sitting at El torito, eating tacos surrounded by waiters wearing face masks. It was the best date either of us had ever been on.
Just 4 days before his birthday, Brenton and I arrived at a winery for his "surprise" birthday dinner. On our way to be seated at our table he started nudging me towards this incredible mountain view. We looked out at the view while Brenton reflected on our relationship. After a few moments of reflection, we turned to walk away but before I could take another step, he dropped on one knee! Spoiler alert, I said yes! We celebrated in private briefly then went to our table where we were met with our closest family and friends.
