How We Met - Katie's Version

From Co-Workers to Husband and Wife!

My first job after college was at Rothschild’s New York office. Before beginning to work in New York, Rothschild required that all new employees spend 6 weeks in London (the global headquarters) for training. During the first week of training, I met Will - we were coincidentally placed in the same small group for a week of team-building exercises at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Throughout our week at Sandhurst, Will and I found ourselves spending more and more time together. I’ll always remember that Will caught my eye during one particular activity, which required us to build a makeshift raft out of barrels, a few logs, and some ropes. Will’s Naval sailing chops were on full display as he demonstrated his handiness at knot-tying; I also fell in love with his dry wit and generous laughter. When we returned to London the following week, I angled my way into a sushi dinner Will and his Los Angeles friends were going to, and the next five weeks of training flew by as we knocked about London together! When we returned back to the States, we decided to make every effort to close the distance between our respective offices in New York and Los Angeles - this meant many weekend trips and long red-eye flights in the months until COVID took hold in March of 2020. We took advantage of our opportunity to "work from anywhere" by spending time together in LA, Texas, and NY until I ultimately moved cross-country for good in the summer of 2021. Two years later, despite a busy work schedule, Will pressured me to take a weekend trip up to the Bay Area to visit his Naval Academy roommate (and future Best Man) Ben Lowe, his wife Kaylee, and their newborn baby Lucy. Little did I know that we’d be making a stop in Big Sur, the place where Will had always dreamed of proposing. On an overcast Saturday morning (July 15th, 2023) Will led me down a rocky promontory, dropped to one knee, and asked me to marry him. I said “Yes!”

How I Tied the Knot

Katie and I actually met a year prior, during the summer of 2018. Before landing our full-time jobs with Rothschild, we were both in New York for a week to kick off the internship program. I was immediately very impressed with her…she has no recollection of meeting me whatsoever. After we both secured offers to return full-time, I spent the next year feverishly practicing all manner of knot tying in preparation for a last-ditch effort to catch her eye. It paid off, and now I get to marry the girl of my dreams! I love you Katie!
