Katie and Jake were visiting Indiana University in 2016 where they both went to school. Jake graduated in 2014 and Katie in 2015. Even though they were in Bloomington together for three years as undergrads, to their knowledge, their paths never crossed. As alumni, that changed. Jake was back in Bloomington with some college friends to enjoy the festivities surrounding the IU Little 500. Katie was back to watch her little brother, Bobby, bike in the race. That Saturday night, they both went out to a local favorite bar, Kilroy's Sports. After some time, Jake's friends went to check out the club upstairs. Anyone who knows Jake knows clubbing is not his thing so he hung back by himself in the back room downstairs, watching the group's booth and bucket of booze. Katie wandered into the back room as well, looking for some friends, and was drawn to the man at the booth. She approached him and the two started talking. They shared how they had both recently graduated from IU and found out they were now living just two blocks away from each other in Chicago (Lincoln Park). Further intrigued, Katie asked Jake what he did for a living. Jake promptly responded with his latest and typically unsuccessful pickup line, "I work at Northwestern. I save lives." When Katie responded, "I work at Northwestern too!" Jake, realizing he was caught in his fib, replied, "Oh, I don't save lives. I do finance for Northwestern." The two exchanged numbers, exchanged a few quick texts that night, went on a first date a few weeks later at RJ Grunts and the rest was history!
