New River Gorge National Park

New River Gorge National Park

104 Main Street, Glen Jean, WV 25846

The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve protects and preserves 53 miles of the New River as well as over 70,000 acres of the magnificent gorge that this river created. The park was established as West Virginia's only national park in 2020. There are plenty of things to do in the gorge, from rafting to rock climbing to hiking. Here you can see the famous New River Gorge Bridge. The bridge is a steel arch bridge that stretches 3,030 feet long over the New River Gorge near Fayetteville, West Virginia, in the Appalachian Mountains. With an arch 1,700 feet (518 m) long, the New River Gorge Bridge was the world's longest single-span arch bridge for 26 years; it is now the fourth longest. Below you can find two different trails I would recommend to see the bridge and take in the scenery.

Long Point Trail

Long Point Trail

Long Point Trail, WV 25840

This trail traverses field and forest on the way to a rock outcrop (Long Point) with panoramic views of the gorge and New River Gorge Bridge. Most of this trail lazily descends through the forest, but it does include one steep section just before you arrive at the point. LENGTH: 1.6 miles (one-way) DIFFICULTY: Moderate TRAIL TYPE: Hiking and biking

Canyon Rim Boardwalk

Canyon Rim Boardwalk

Canyon Rim Boardwalk, WV 25862

This boardwalk offers scenic views of the gorge and New River Gorge Bridge. An easy walk on a fully accessible ramp leads to the first viewing point, while 178 steps descend to the lower overlook. LENGTH: 0.1 miles (one-way) DIFFICULTY: Easy/strenuous TRAIL TYPE: Hiking and accessible to the top overlook

Tamarack Marketplace

Tamarack Marketplace

1 Tamarack Place, Beckley, WV 25801

Tamarack Marketplace is an iconic road stop for all who travel I-77 through Beckley, West Virginia. The peaked red roof building is eye-catching to say the least, but it’s the mission, the artistry, and Appalachian pride that has made Tamarack Marketplace what it is today. The products of more than 2,800 artists and artisans from all fifty-five counties are sold at the regional showcase that make it evident there is no lack of talent in the Mountain State. However, it is more than a shopping experience and art gallery. It’s a local social hub featuring artist demonstrations, a summer concert series every weekend in the courtyard, and Appalachian cuisine at its restaurant with indoor, to-go, and al fresco dining options. Tamarack Marketplace located at Exit 45 on I-77/64.

Bridge Brew Works

335 Nick Rahall Greenway, Fayetteville, WV 25840

We brew beer that we want to drink. They aren’t beers you might expect to be brewed by a small brewery in Southern West Virginia. You might not like them, and that’s ok. We won’t be mad. Promise. Why? If our beers were brewed to be liked by all, they would never be special to some. Belgian-style beers made in West Virginia? No. It’s not a joke. There are a number of year-round beers available as well as a variety of seasonal offerings from a light and refreshing Kolsch-style beer, to a big, strong Barleywine. It’s our goal to provide you year-round consistent quality along with something new each season.

The Freefolk Brewery Taproom

1690 Court Street, Fayetteville, WV 25840

Free-spirited beer for free-spirited people. We at The Freefolk Brewery believe in the power of crafting things. Wild things. Free things. Folk things. We believe that by crafting these things we can craft a culture. We believe in bringing folk together to share experiences, adventure, and friendship. Craft Beer. Craft Culture. Craft Life.
