One reason we chose the day of May 29th is because two holidays surround the wedding. For those coming from the States, Memorial Day is on May 26th, which is the Monday before the wedding. For those in Ireland, the June Bank Holiday is on Monday June 2nd, the Monday after the wedding. We hope this makes the event easier to plan around.
Katie and Alex met in California through one of Alex's coworkers. They were friends for many months before they started dating. Alex secretly envisioned a future for them as a couple, while Katie still saw them as just friends. It all came together one night when Alex asked Katie to "pretend to be his date" and go to his friend's birthday party with him. He had lied to his friends and said he couldn't make it because he was on a date (and he wasn't), so when they kept pressuring him to come he figured he better find a date fast! Katie agreed to do so, thinking it would be funny. On the hour long drive to the party, Alex taught Katie all of the important information, like his parents' names, the name of his high school, where his family was originally from, and more. They laughed and had a blast thinking about pulling off this joke to all of his friends. When they arrived to the party all of Alex's closest friends started asking Katie all the typical questions you ask your best friend's new "girlfriend", and luckily she was prepared! As the night went on, Katie and Alex had more and more fun pulling off this joke, and spending this time as a "couple" together. It was all fun & games until the birthday girl, Danielle (who is also one of Alex's groomswomen!), after a few shots of tequila said "I want to see you two kiss!". Katie looked at Alex for a moment, debating what to do, and then decided she couldn't ruin the joke, so right then and there, Katie & Alex had their first kiss. And from then on, it was history. That was the moment that Katie & Alex started to make their way out of the friendzone, and 5 years later are planning their journey to the altar :)
