Mickeys on the East Side

11/14/2016

We met at Mickeys in East Nashville. Alex challenges Katie to a game of foosball and was surprised at how good and competitive she was. They moved on to the pool table where a hipster began to preach to us about Trump being elected. When Katie went to the bathroom, Alex told the guy “hey man, I feel ya, but I really like this girl and you are kind of crashing our party and bringing down the mood.” Having just moved to Nashville, from Kansas City, Alex only had enough money to buy Katie one drink. He was about to make his excuses and head home when Katie offered him a drink in return. They stayed until closing and parted ways. Alex waited 5 days to reach back out. Their second date was a late night outing to Roberts Western World where Alex reached for Katie’s hand. But it was the third date when Katie realized she was in love. It was the night of the Gatlinburg fires and he was so kind and supportive while she worried for her family and her home. He stayed with her until she was able to start her journey home in the daylight. That gesture moved her and her love for her mountains moved Alex. They were inseparable after that.

The Proposal

5/4/2019

Alex took Katie and the pups camping in Waynesville,NC. The excuse for the camping trip was a annual ramp festival. The morning of the proposal was bright and sunny. Katie sat in her camp chair reading 'Into Thin Air" while Alex fished along the creek. Alex caught a huge trout that jumped off the line wile they were examining him. About 20 minutes later, it started to rain, so the couple went inside the camper to start lunch. Usually not a fan of being inside the camper, the two were surprised at how cozy it was with the windows open, listing to the rain while the pups napped. Katie continued to read her book and Alex was hard at work in the kitchen. The rain started to dwindle right as lunch was ready so the two settled in at the picnic table for a feast of oysters, miniature buckwheat pancakes with smoked salmon and a cheese spread. Katie was hard at work shucking oysters while Alex looked on in a panic waiting for her to stab herself in the LEFT hand. Alex kept pleading with her to use the rag he had given her to protect her hand. She continued to work sans rag and quipped that she knew exactly how to shuck oysters. There was an extra plate at the table with chopped boiled eggs, chopped shallots and crème fraîche. Katie gestured to the plate and asked what it was there for. Alex answered that he would let her know later. She thought nothing of not and continued dangerously shucking oysters. The pair ate and talked and then again Katie asked what the other plate was for, but Alex brushed her off and said I'll tell you soon. Again she thought nothing of it. They were slowing down on their lunch when Katie asked fora final time, what the other plate was for. Alex asked if he could come around to her side of the picnic table, she nodded. He came around and got on one knee. The pups started barking at all the commotion, they were also thrilled to know their family was going to be complete.
