We met in organic chemistry class, but it was not that simple. Fate had a lot to do with it. Kathy was already enrolled in the class and Eli was waitlisted for the class. Last minute, he decided to go to the first day of lab and try his luck. Little did he know that his whole life would change. After a brutal screening process, he was accepted in the class. The professor made Eli sit in the back lab bench to determine who his lab partner would be. As he walked to his bench he noticed a beautiful young girl, which he was scared to even talk to. After the professor let everyone else in the class pick their lab partner, only 2 people were left, it was Eli and Kathy. By default we became lab partners. Neither one of them was thrilled that no one picked them, but they both accepted the fact. In the following weeks, we soon realized that we both were not great at organic chemistry and if we wanted to pass we had to help each other out. We started to sit next to each other in lecture and ultimately started to have study sessions together and with groups of friends. As time passed those study sessions became "friendlier" and in a blink of an eye, we were on our first date. The rest, well the rest is history!
After months of carefully planning, we decided we would go to Rome and Venice for our annual Eurotrip vacation and Kathy's birthday celebration... or so Kathy thought. What Kathy did not know was that Eli, Shela (Kathy's sister), and Anett (Eli's sister) were planning to take our families to Europe as well for a big surprise. The problems came when booking. Due to conflicts, we ended up booking the same flight. So planning became crucial in order to surprise Kathy. Thankfully we were able to have our families board first with their reserved seats in the back, while Kathy and Eli were "late" boarding and had reserved seats in the front. After a stressful flight of constant avoidance due to restroom breaks, we finally landed in Rome. The family waited to the very last passengers to leave the plane, in order to give us time to grab our luggage and take a taxi to our hotel. We were in a little of a hurry since we had " Colosseum reservations of a tour" so we dropped off our luggage quickly. However, as we were waiting for our taxi to take us to the tour, the taxi carrying our families arrived at the the hotel. Quickly they ran and hid from us in the hotel bushes. Thankfully Kathy never saw them. Now we were on our way to the Colosseum. In front of the colosseum, our families surprised Kathy. This created a jubilance of emotions for Kathy and our families. But why were they there? The alibi was that it was a birthday present. As we entered the colosseum for our tour, Eli secretly hired a photographer who took pictures the entire tour. As we reached the top and found the perfect spot, the family stopped while Eli kept walking and finally stopped a few steps ahead. Nervously, he started to hug her and started explaining how far we both have come in all these years together. Shaking and struggling to take the ring box outof his pocket, he got on his knees and asked her "will you marry?" Shocked and in tears she replied "Yes"
