Since we both had the pleasure of growing up in our small little oasis we call Scripps Ranch, we ended up meeting each other for the first time freshman year in sign language class. We spent our time goofing around at our little table in the back with our class buddies, including our awesome officiant, Max Denhart! We became quick friends and always took the time to say hi in the halls and chit chat in classes we had together. As the years went on, we went off to college, worked and experienced our early 20s, all while remaining close to home. After not seeing each other for a long time, we ran into each other once at the San Diego Zoo, and both of us seemed to light up by seeing a friend from the past. We quickly caught up, gave a goodbye hug and went our separate ways. Kate was with her cousin and as they were walking away she said “he’s totally in to you”, to which Kate replied, “no way I’ve known him since high school and he has always been a super nice guy, it was nice to see him!” A few years later, we were in need of a pizza guy for Pernicano’s, so Kate put a post out on Facebook to see if anyone was interested in part time work, and Cameron reached out! Cameron started working in the kitchen and we started to catch up like old friends do, but both of us were in relationships at the time. In 2016, our good friend, Sam, began working for the restaurant as well and her and Cameron became quick friends, which led to Cameron introducing her to his best friend and Sam’s now husband, Mike (Brown Mike). We all became close and started hanging out together. Going on Harley rides, downtown nights at Moonshine Flats, hookah sessions in Mike’s garage, and now the rest is history! We continued to create amazing memories together. We went to Maui with the Lusters, Richards and DeNinnos for Thanksgiving in 2017! It was Kate’s first time ever to Hawaii and we had an unforgettable trip. We decided to move in together in December of 2017 (that was an eventful month for us) and never looked back. A few years in to our relationship, we decided to take the leap and move out of state to Portland Oregon! We took a week long road trip up the coast - Cam, Kate, our good buddy Tyler Bratlien, and our boy Mr. Ruckus! We spent the whole trip making our way up the coast, camping in unforgettable locations and visiting awesome landmarks (and breweries) along the way! It was a once in a lifetime trip that we constantly reminisce about. Once we arrived, We both got busy going to school and working in the service industry, all while experiencing a new city away from all of our close family and friends. We met some nice people and had some visitors while we were living there, but it only made us realize how much we missed being near our people! So when Covid shut everything down, we moved home! We are so happy we did, but we will always be thankful we had the opportunity to give moving away from home a chance. Since our move home, we bought a RZR and a trailer and now we spend as many weekends as we can camping and off-roading, mostly in the Glamis Sand Dunes and Ocotillo Wells. We also added a new member to our little family, Bandit! He was the last gift to us from Cameron’s beautiful Nonna, and he has been the perfect addition (even though Ruckus was mad he was no longer an only-dog). We love the life that we have built together and are so excited for the next chapter as husband and wife!
If you know Cameron, you know the desert is his happy place, and Kate is so lucky to have been introduced to this life because it is honestly like nothing she’s ever experienced. On October 16, 2022, we were gearing up for the upcoming desert season arriving in a few short weeks, and we needed to take our RZR out to break it in after having work done on it. We drove out to Ocotillo Wells and spent the afternoon driving around the desert exploring and having a great time. Later on in the afternoon, Cameron decided to drive up to a lookout with a 360 degree view of Ocotillo Wells called Devil’s Slide (we know, not the most romantic name but the views are amazing). We were up there taking in the view and throwing rocks down the side of the hill and watching them tumble down, since we’re children. As Kate is watching one of her rocks tumble down the hillside, Cameron is gearing up to ask the big question, and Kate turns around to Cameron down on one knee. It was perfect. It was us. We were so excited to share the news with our friends and family!
