The Proposal

October 24, 2022

It was our last full day in Santorini and we had yet to experience the famous Santorini sunset. Karl mentioned that we should take some nice pictures and maybe eat at a fancy restaurant, which I happily agreed to. During the day, we planned for a 6 mile hike and take the bus back to our hotel in order to catch the sunset later that day. To our luck, that 6 mile hike took longer than expected. By the time we got to our hotel, Karl told me that we had less than an hour to get ready if we wanted to catch the sunset in time. At the time, I didn't realize that we were planning to do a whole photo shoot until I laid eyes on Karl who was all dressed up in a nice blazer, slacks, and dress shoes. His excuse was that he wanted to look good for his sunset pictures (typical Karl). I, on the other hand, with my wet hair and half-done makeup had to quickly change into a dress as Karl was urgently getting us out the door. We quickly started our trek towards the cliffs which overlook the Aegean Sea, when Karl took a sharp left turn stating that he was taking us to a "secret Instagram spot." After going up and down several stairs and passage ways, he proceeded to lift up a chain linked fence and led us through some rocky terrain. Upon arrival, the place was breathtaking with the deep blue Aegean Sea on one side and the famous white buildings to the other side. No one was there except for one photographer taking photos of the landscape. We started to take pictures of each other on Karl's phone and agreed to ask the photographer to take a picture of us together before he left. I approached the photographer not knowing that before and during our trip Karl had been communicating with that same photographer to capture our proposal. Using Karl's iPhone, the photographer proceeded to take photos of us and later offered to take photos with his nice camera with the excuse being that his camera has a higher resolution. Afterwards, he told us he'd email us our photos. Of course we went along with it. The photographer gave us direction on how to pose/position ourselves. I looked at Karl and said "isn't this weird" and Karl said "just go with it he's a photographer he knows what he is doing." I didn't question it and went along with it. While we were whispering to each other, we had missed the last direction the photographer had given us. So I looked over my shoulder to ask the photographer what he had said. When I turned my head to face Karl, he was getting down on one knee! I was in utter disbelief and shock! With tears streaming down my face I said "YES!" For the next hour, we proceeded to take an elaborate photoshoot with the photographer that Karl's hired. Then, we ended up celebrating our engagement at a fancy Greek restaurant just as Karl promised. I couldn't have wished for a more perfect proposal. We will forever cherish this day in our hearts.
