Coming Soon to a Theatre Near You
I woke up on November 5th, 2022, thinking it would be a great and fun day! Jake had told me the week before that he had a work event in Key West and that the CEO and his current Boss invited him on their company’s boat. We woke up on that Saturday with a busy, fully planned day! We needed to leave the apartment by 10 am to make it to the Keys by 2 pm Ish. Jake was very patient with me as I was rushing to get ready, which I found a bit odd as he always likes to be on time and normally rushes me to get out the door! Lol We left about 30 minutes behind schedule to make the drive to Key West. Anyone who has driven to the keys knows that it takes forever to get down there because of the police and the one-way roads. We were having a really good time until suddenly the GPS started to push back our arrival time. First by 30 mins, then by 1 hour, then back to 45 mins, and then jumped back up to 1 hour, which was odd. I remained optimistic and kept telling Jake not to worry that the GPS was probably wrong. As we neared the entrance to the Keys, we hit stand-still traffic, I could sense Jake was now on the verge of hitting road rage and was extremely stressed out. I sang to him the Calm Down song by Selena Gomez thinking it would help him relax, but he was not having it lol. Sure, enough there was an accident right at the top of the entrance to the key that involved a motorcycle. Our new arrival time was now 5:43 p.m. We finally made it to the Keys and quickly checked in to the Southernmost Beach Resort in Key West. I had never stayed here and remember thinking, “This is a cute resort and this room with beach access is super nice!” We quickly changed and off we were to meet his boss at their company event. When we arrived at the port, I was so excited to meet everyone and see their company’s boat. So we finally find the boat together. The first thing I see is this cute boat captain on a sailboat, but no people on board. This seemed fishy, but I thought to myself “Maybe the captain dropped them off somewhere nearby to eat dinner since it was already around 6 when we arrived, and I mean if they were out on the boat since 2 pm they were probably starving by now-I would probably grab dinner too if I was hungry!” Jake received a phone call from his Boss. I couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but I was pumped to be on a sailboat since I had never been on one and had always wanted to. Anxiously waiting for Jake to finish his phone call he informed me that they went to grab dinner while they waited for us but told Jake that he could take the boat out if he wanted since they enjoyed it earlier in the day. Jake asked if I wanted to go out on the boat, so I said “Definitely, we are already here why not go for a quick spin on the water!”. The captain was teaching me to put the sails up on the boat and off we went into the horizon. The captain asked us if we wanted to go to a nice spot to see the sunset to which we both answered, “Absolutely! Let’s do it!” Then Jake asked me, “Do you want to go sit at the top to get a better view of the sunset?”, I responded and said, “Of course!” As we were sitting there Jake asked me if I wanted a drink and proceeded to leave to grab me one. I thought to myself, “This would be the perfect proposal spot! Maybe Jake will ask me today, but then again, the series of events we had earlier in the morning/afternoon, getting stuck in traffic for what seemed like 6 hours, not making it on time when they departed with the boat at 2 pm, missing his Boss, and getting a stain on his dress pants, I thought no way he is definitely not asking me today!”
The view of the sunset was absolutely breathtaking! Jake called my name, and I stood up to receive the drink he had brought me. Jake looked me in the eyes, and said some sweet things about all our years together and how the day did not go as he planned. This was the moment I knew it was happening!! Jake got on his knee and asked, “Will you Marry Me?” and pulled out the ring box. I was in shock and of course, I said YES! It was everything I had dreamed of and more! The captain filmed the whole proposal and shortly came over after and popped a champagne bottle for us to celebrate. On our way back to the dock, we had numerous people cheering us on from the pier and clapping. I thought to myself, “How do they know that Jake just proposed?” I looked over to the captain and sure enough, he was holding up a sign that said, “She said Yes!” To my even bigger surprise, when we got back to the hotel, there were roses laid out on the bed in the shape of a heart and my favorite Veuve champagne bottle sitting on the table chilled. I thought to myself, “Am I dreaming right now is this real? How did Jake pull this off?” I was beyond happy! It was so perfect!
