Experience SLO

The Wedding Website of Kaitlyn Blakey and Brent Soutar
These are some of our favorite places and things to do in our little corner of California. We think you'll find there is something for everyone, whether you want to get out and hike, relax on a beach, enjoy some wine or beer - the beauty of San Luis Obispo is that you can easily do all of those things in one day ☀️ This is by no means an exhaustive list, so feel free to reach out to either of us for more recommendations based on where you're staying and what you'd like to experience ❣️
Morro Bay Dog Beach

Morro Bay Dog Beach

Cayucos, CA 93430

You don't have to have a four legged friend to enjoy this beautiful beach! This is one of our favorite beaches because it is a short 15 minute drive from SLO and it is rarely crowded and there are gorgeous views of Morro Rock.

Grassy Bar Oyster Company

Grassy Bar Oyster Company

1215 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA 93442

One of our favorite date spots. Enjoy fresh oysters on the half shell with a beautiful view of the bay, then walk along the embarcadero to get a close up look at all the fishing boats, seals, and otters. They are open 12-5pm Thursday-Sunday.

Montana De Oro State Park

Montana De Oro State Park

Montana De Oro State Park, CA 93402

Six miles southwest of Morro Bay is Montana de Oro State Park, a gem of the Central Coast. This park features rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains, streams, canyons, and hills, including 1,347-foot Valencia Peak. Naturalists and backpackers enjoy the solitude and freedom found along the park's trails. There is something for hikers of all levels here and some of the best views in the county.

High Street Deli

High Street Deli

1326 2nd Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93402

After hiking in MDO, you deserve a delicious central coast sando and a pint from High St. Deli. This iconic deli has two locations, and we recommend the Dutch Punch, the California Turkey, or the Tropical Vacation (Brent's favorite!)

Bishop Peak Trail

Bishop Peak Trail

Bishop Peak Trail, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405

You can find us on this trail almost every week! It holds a special place in our hearts since it is right in our backyard - it's even where we took our engagement photos. Bishop Peak is a 1,546-foot volcanic plug and it is the tallest of the Morros or "Nine Sisters", a chain of similar peaks stretching to Morro Bay. The iconic mountain has a rocky crown shaped like a bishop’s miter, which provides panoramic views over the city and nearby peaks.

There Does Not Exist

There Does Not Exist

4070 Earthwood Lane, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Quench your thirst at There Does Not Exist! Not only do they offer some of the best beer in the county, the owner and head brewer Max is one of Brent's best mates.

Liquid Gravity Brewing Company

Liquid Gravity Brewing Company

675 Clarion Court, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Another great brewery owned and operated by our friends Brendan & Celeste. Enjoy a huge outdoor patio space and crispy beers. Our favorite: Pale From the Crypt

Skippers Brew Coffee House - SLO

Skippers Brew Coffee House - SLO

1242 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

If you like coffee and dogs, you will love Skipper's Brew. Located just half a mile from our venue, the owners are another awesome Australian/American couple. Stop in for a cappuccino and a meat pie or sausage roll

Cerro San Luis

Cerro San Luis

1177 Fernandez Rd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Located just west of downtown San Luis Obispo, the 1,292-foot Cerro San Luis (or San Luis Mountain) offers sweeping views over the city and surroundings. Cerro San Luis is another one of the Morros, or Nine Sisters, a chain of prominent volcanic peaks stretching east from Morro Bay. Several trails explore Cerro San Luis, and its proximity to downtown makes it quite popular with hikers. The main trail to the summit begins from the end of Marsh Street just before the on ramp to Highway 101, providing a four mile out and back hike with 1,100 feet of elevation change. Bonus points for reaching the summit for sunrise, one of Kaitlyn's favorite things to do with her pup Atticus and her girlfriends.

Explore Paso Robles Wine Country

Explore Paso Robles Wine Country

560 10th Street, Paso Robles, CA

Yes, we are mostly "beer people," but Paso Robles is one of California's best loved wine regions and we are so fortunate to live only a short drive away from beautiful vineyards and rolling hills. There are over 250 wineries to choose from, so take a look at the map and plan your route or just head up there and wing it! Some of our favorites are: Brecon, Dover Canyon, Halter Ranch, Opolo, Oso Libre, Rava, and Thacher.

Chamisal Vineyards

Chamisal Vineyards

7525 Orcutt Road, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Out in Edna Valley just 10 minutes away from San Luis Obispo, you can find a ton of tranquil wineries and vineyards. Chamisal offers a picturesque view and knowledgeable staff who can teach you all about their sustainable and regenerative practices.

Claiborne & Churchill Winery

Claiborne & Churchill Winery

2649 Carpenter Canyon Road, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Claiborne & Churchill is a small, family owned and operated winery, founded in 1983 and located in the heart of the Edna Valley, just outside San Luis Obispo. You can find Kaitlyn and Brent here on a Friday evening enjoying wine and live music in the garden.

Malene Wines

Malene Wines

7767 Orcutt Road, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Malene is a fun and unique experience parked right next to Chamisal Vineyards. Malene serves rosé only (come on, you're on holiday!) out of their vintage Airstream tasting room. Open Friday – Sunday 11am-5pm

Luna Red

Luna Red

999 Chorro Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

One of our favorite places to take visitors downtown, and one of our favorite date spots! We highly recommend the tequila verde cocktail, or smoke and honey if you're a mezcal person. This is a tapas bar serving small plates and we recommend the chips and salsa, goat cheese stuffed peppers, bacon wrapped dates, and coconut shrimp tacos. Split the paella with your boo if you're hungry for more!

Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa

Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa

1215 Avila Beach Drive, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405
, (805) 595-7302

Another favorite place to take visitors since it is such a unique experience. Soak it all in in a hillside hot tub under the trees. One of our favorite date spots!
