One of our favorite date spots. Enjoy fresh oysters on the half shell with a beautiful view of the bay, then walk along the embarcadero to get a close up look at all the fishing boats, seals, and otters. They are open 12-5pm Thursday-Sunday.
Six miles southwest of Morro Bay is Montana de Oro State Park, a gem of the Central Coast. This park features rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains, streams, canyons, and hills, including 1,347-foot Valencia Peak. Naturalists and backpackers enjoy the solitude and freedom found along the park's trails. There is something for hikers of all levels here and some of the best views in the county.
You can find us on this trail almost every week! It holds a special place in our hearts since it is right in our backyard - it's even where we took our engagement photos. Bishop Peak is a 1,546-foot volcanic plug and it is the tallest of the Morros or "Nine Sisters", a chain of similar peaks stretching to Morro Bay. The iconic mountain has a rocky crown shaped like a bishop’s miter, which provides panoramic views over the city and nearby peaks.
Located just west of downtown San Luis Obispo, the 1,292-foot Cerro San Luis (or San Luis Mountain) offers sweeping views over the city and surroundings. Cerro San Luis is another one of the Morros, or Nine Sisters, a chain of prominent volcanic peaks stretching east from Morro Bay. Several trails explore Cerro San Luis, and its proximity to downtown makes it quite popular with hikers. The main trail to the summit begins from the end of Marsh Street just before the on ramp to Highway 101, providing a four mile out and back hike with 1,100 feet of elevation change. Bonus points for reaching the summit for sunrise, one of Kaitlyn's favorite things to do with her pup Atticus and her girlfriends.
Yes, we are mostly "beer people," but Paso Robles is one of California's best loved wine regions and we are so fortunate to live only a short drive away from beautiful vineyards and rolling hills. There are over 250 wineries to choose from, so take a look at the map and plan your route or just head up there and wing it! Some of our favorites are: Brecon, Dover Canyon, Halter Ranch, Opolo, Oso Libre, Rava, and Thacher.
Out in Edna Valley just 10 minutes away from San Luis Obispo, you can find a ton of tranquil wineries and vineyards. Chamisal offers a picturesque view and knowledgeable staff who can teach you all about their sustainable and regenerative practices.
Claiborne & Churchill is a small, family owned and operated winery, founded in 1983 and located in the heart of the Edna Valley, just outside San Luis Obispo. You can find Kaitlyn and Brent here on a Friday evening enjoying wine and live music in the garden.
One of our favorite places to take visitors downtown, and one of our favorite date spots! We highly recommend the tequila verde cocktail, or smoke and honey if you're a mezcal person. This is a tapas bar serving small plates and we recommend the chips and salsa, goat cheese stuffed peppers, bacon wrapped dates, and coconut shrimp tacos. Split the paella with your boo if you're hungry for more!
