It was spring break of Kait's first year of graduate school when she went to visit a good friend who attended Penn State for law school. On her first night in State College, Kait and her friend decided to head downtown to meet up with some classmates. Almost as quickly as they were introduced, Kait and Chris hit it off. Between his awful jokes and high volume, Chris could not believe that a girl as beautiful and fun as Kait was possibly interested in him. Chris decided to test Kait to see how hard she would try to be cool by offering her a shot of Jameson, which she, to his surprise, accepted with open arms. It wasn't until later that Chris learned how much Kait actually hates whiskey, particularly Jameson, but Kait was just as hooked as he was. As the night progressed, the two continued to fall for each other. At the end of the night, Chris sealed his fate by buying Kait her favorite meal, a central Pennsylvania delicacy: Sheetz Nachos. The two swapped numbers and next thing they knew they were talking all day every day. Not long after they met, Chris had to drive to Austin for the summer and he asked Kait if she would tag along. Kait agreed, and the story wrote itself from there.

Chris and Kait fell in love fairly quickly and it wasn't very long before Chris began to look at engagement rings. During the fall of his third year of law school, Chris snuck to Annapolis multiple times to look at engagement rings and was constantly trying to figure out how he would afford one. In the winter of 2016, Chris finally had the perfect ring in mind with the money to buy it. Chris just needed to find the right time to pull it off. Normally frugal, Chris bit his lip and let Kait pick an exotic location for a spring break trip knowing that he would find a way propose to her there. After settling on Iceland, the stress set in. Everyone was in on the proposal, except for Kait. With the engagement set to take place on a Thursday, Chris could barely handle the stress any longer and leapt at the opportunity to propose two days early underneath the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall in Southern Iceland. "I love you, you're my best friend" was all Chris could get out of his mouth before dropping to a knee and asking Kait to marry him. Kait had no idea and the two celebrated with friends and family at an engagement party in D.C. just after they landed.
