Getting to Valle

There are many ways to travel down to Valle de Guadalupe. Below are four example itineraries traveling from Seattle to help you choose what works best for you! (Estimated pricing is based on two people sharing travel costs and was gathered beginning of January. The prices will likely change as we get closer to the wedding) Couple things to keep in mind: -Crossing the border into Mexico is quick most of the time, but crossing back into the US can have some very long wait times (2-4 hours by car). Walking across is much faster, or even better, flying into Tijuana will allow you to avoid the busy border all together. -There are three toll stations along the way, so make sure to bring cash. They accept US dollars and pesos. (approx. $3USD/$50MXN each) -Don't forget your passport!

Flight

#1 San Diego flight and car rental

Approx. $600/person Pros: -Personal transportation for whole trip -Least amount of walking Cons: -Most time consuming for planning your drive back into the US due to unpredictably long border line wait, especially on a holiday weekend. (2-4 hours) A late flight home is recommended. -Limited car rental companies allow you to cross the border and require you to purchase Mexican car insurance. Sun Diego Car Rental is a company that offers this.

Flight

#2 San Diego flight and Tijuana car rental

Approx. $450/person Pros: -Personal transportation for whole trip -More cost effective -Shorter wait walking across border Cons: -Multiple steps

Flight

#3 Tijuana flight and car rental

Approx. $1000/person Pros: -Personal transportation for whole trip -No waiting at the border Cons: -More expensive (Volaris Airlines offers cheaper flights, but only overnight layovers from Seattle) -Not a direct flight

Flight

#4 San Diego flight and private shuttle

Approx. $840/person Pros: -No driving -Shuttle pricing can be reduced with more people. Quote through 5 Star Tours (pricing fluctuates often and based off of availability) or check with your hotel to see if they offer any transportation services. -Fastest travel time (5 Star Tours shuttle uses designated border lane, reducing wait time to approx. 1-2 hours) Cons: -No personal transportation in Valle -Expensive

Travel Note

Getting around Valle

-3 reliable options for getting around Valle (1) Rent a car (2)Hire a driver/car for the day (very common) (3)Join a tour group -Ubering to Valle is no problem, but they are often limited/unavailable once you're in the valley- especially on weekdays and at night -There is no Lyft in Mexico, so make sure you download Uber if you plan on using a rideshare service during the trip -If you're renting a car, we recommend higher/larger cars for the bumpy dirt roads -We'll be providing a wedding day shuttle to and from the venue and the hotels we list below. -Please be safe and don't drink and drive!

General Travel Tips

-US dollars are excepted nearly everywhere -Avoid airport currency exchange kiosks- they're known for unfavorable exchange rates -We often find that ATMs offer competitive exchange rates (check your bank's fees for foreign transactions) -Whatapp is a messaging app that uses the internet to send messages instead of cell service. Depending on your cell service, this can help you avoid any fees. Also, it's very common to communicate with businesses through this app. -Google Translate app can translate languages by text, audio and images of text (great for reading menus by taking a photo or screenshots on your phone)
