Question

Will I have phone service in Mexico?

Answer

Unless you have an international plan, you won't have cel service as you enter into Mexico. However, we recommend calling your carrier the week of the wedding and adding on international service and data for that month. Typically it's not expensive and will allow you to use convenient apps such as Google Maps. Remember to turn data roaming on in your device settings!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Please check Tecate for weather updates. We expect the weather to be warm to temperate during the day this time of year. However, please consider bringing a shawl or jacket in case it gets colder at night. Ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing are all fully outdoors.

Question

Do I need a passport or any other documents?

Answer

Yes! Please do not forget your active passport and/or residency card or visa as you will need it to cross the border back into the US. If you have Global Entry, that will give you expedited entry back into the US so bring that as well.

Question

Should I have cash in pesos?

Answer

Having pesos is recommended; however, cards and US dollars are accepted most places like hotels and restaurants. The toll road Tijuana - Tecate - Tijuana requires cash, you can pay in pesos or dollars but payment must be in one currency only. Other smaller restaurants or shops might be cash only as well. We recommend taking out a small amount for the weekend for these types of expenses. There are several currency exchange spots in Tijuana if you wish to exchange dollars for pesos.

Question

How long are the wait times at the border? What are my options?

Answer

Wait times via car can vary from 40 minutes up to 4 hours in the general lane. Average wait time is 75 minutes. If you have a Passport Card, you are able to use the Ready Lane where the average is about 60 minutes. If you have a Global Entry Card you are able to use the SENTRI lane where average wait time is 15 minutes. Last option is a shuttle or transportation that will drop you off so you can walk through the border and pick you up on the other side. This will probably have the shortest wait time second to SENTRI.

Question

Do I need to bring proof of covid vaccination with me?

Answer

Yes, please bring either your physical or digital vaccination card as some places in the city might ask for it. You will not be asked for it at the border either entering Mexico or the US but it is always good to carry it with you.

Question

Are There Any Items I Can't Bring Back To The US Crossing The Border?

Answer

Yes! Please refrain from bringing fruits, vegetables or meat. Basically anything fresh. You are good to bring anything process or packaged such as candy or chips. Alcohol is allowed as well. Also, please note to leave any legal weed products back at home in the US and not bring into Mexico.

Question

How do I get around in the area?

Answer

We highly recommend making sure you have access to cellular data so that you can use Google Maps if renting a car. Uber is available and you can also ride Taxi libre with cash. There are as well taxis colectivos (works like a bus with assigned stops but smaller shared car) and city buses if you wish to use at your discretion.
