She has literally given me the shirt (or dress) off her back at least a dozen times.

The glass is always three-quarters full when she's around. Like a burst of sunlight on a cloudy day - she'll pour you a drink, feed you, and listen for hours while making you laugh. From the moment we met (when I was in law school) I claimed her as mine. From across the miles (she lives literally on the other side of the world) we've managed to stay tethered. She is one of the bravest people I know. Gulping down life in giant swigs, whether light and lively or heavier than one should know. She brings light to everyone near her. And her laugh is INFECTUOUS.

My friend Kathie embodies true light to everyone she meets. She is the most popular person I know because she is so very awesome. Her kindness and gentle spirit draw people to her and when you are with her, she makes you feel so special and loved, like you're the only person in the room. When I am in times of hardship, she is my first call and she always shows up in the most grace filled and generous way.

This woman has stayed by my side through it all. Zany, wacky, full of life. Always up for an adventure. She has traveled the world in the coolest ways - her latest adventure riding the Train du Desert in Mauritania. Considered black sheep, both of us, we are unique in our families. Your joy is Ramón's joy and he is the first to give a hug and a smile when you need it most. Ramón is always working to be the best version of himself and brings out the best in others. He has walked my path (with all the highs and lows) with me every step of the way. These two have been there literally from Day 1 when Julie picked up Merritt from Newark Airport and couldn't stop smiling. Leanna is a shock of color and energy and Rinat a warm blanket around your shoulders. They make a brilliant team, as mothers, partners and friends. I (Julie) dove for the bouquet at their wedding because I wanted a love like theirs. And now I've got it and they're here to celebrate with us.

When I met Julie over 20 years ago in seminary at Princeton, I knew I had met my very best friend. We have grown together through all the phases of our lives- school, babies (who are now young men), moves, and jobs - to form a friendship that is one of the greatest gifts in my life. Not only do we share a love for fly fishing, camping and all things outdoors but our shared deep and abiding faith keeps us connected no matter how far apart we live or how complicated our lives get at times. She is a leader among leaders and my respect for her as a mom, pastor and wife grows daily.
