Traditionally in Thai culture, The groom and his family form a procession to take the ‘khan maak man" on special trays to the family of the bride. Doors ceremony/gate ceremony This ceremony is what the Thais call ‘sanuk‘ with plenty of laughter and frivolity most of which comes at the expense of the groom as he is teased and gently ribbed by the bride’s family. The bride remains inside the house when the khan maak procession arrives. To make sure that the groom is worthy and financially able to take care of his bride, he must be able to open the symbolic doors or gates. The groom may be given a hard time as the gate guardians joke and tell him the money isn’t enough to gain access. As he reaches each gate the amount asked for will be more and there is lots of cheering as each gate is successfully opened. Gifts will also be handed to the bride and her family. It is considered unlucky to wear black at a wedding, so this means no black dresses or tops for women and no black shirts or ties for men, although it is OK to wear black shoes and black trousers or slacks. The remainder of the trip we will be at the beach or in the city on the streets and in the markets, massage/street spas. So while you want mostly comfortable light, airy clothes and bathing suits, you might want to dress up once or twice for evenings out on the town or at a roof top bar.
We are staying in Ao Nang Beach area of Krabi. This area is directly on the beach and is walkable to many other activities. If you want to stay at the same resort as we are, look under the Travel tab. Preferably stay on the South East side of Ao Nang. If you stay in Railey Beach, you will need to take a boat to get to mainland. Ao Nang is a resort town in Krabi, which shares access to the Andaman Sea with Phuket. From Ao Nang you can access some of the most beautiful islands and sites Thailand has to offer. There’s also plenty to do in town from spa’s, Thai cooking classes, muay Thai classes and live muay Thai fights, restaurants, and various Thai cultural tours.
