A Fateful Friday, a Can of Beans, and a Whole Lot of Love

Or to be Straightforward: The Events Leading Up to the Creation of This Wedding Website

After year one of a five year psychology graduate program, Julie was still trying to find her place at the University of Florida. So Julie's neighbor Laura, a materials science graduate student, invited Julie to join her and the other material science graduate students at "Friday Afternoon Club (FAC)," more commonly known as happy hour. Hunter was also a materials science graduate student and more importantly, a founding member of FAC. And so, it was a Fateful Friday when Julie accepted Laura's invitation. OK, it wasn't really fateful at all. Neither Julie nor Hunter remember anything remarkable happening that Friday. But an August 2010 FAC is when they were first in the same place at the same time and probably introduced themselves to each other! Four plus years of FACs later and Julie and Hunter were the only two of the FAC group still left in Gainesville. Maaaaybe there's something romantic there? Nah, Julie was about to move to Dubuque, Iowa for her first post-grad school job and Hunter's career was keeping him in Gainesville for the foreseeable future. That wouldn't make sense. Well, Julie thought it might make sense, but knew better than to push it onto Hunter... he'd figure it out on his own... And a few short months later it dawned on Hunter (with Julie 1,000 miles away) "I should date Julie!" And like that, they began dating long distance. They spent the next year dating, which was no small feat considering it took three airplanes to fly from Gainesville to Dubuque. Ultimately, the timing wasn't right (AKA no one wants to read about a break-up on a wedding website) and they went their separate ways, completely cutting ties. After a couple of cross-country moves for both Hunter and Julie (but always in the opposite direction) it's now March 2022, and importantly, both Julie and Hunter are single. Julie opens her front door to check her mailbox and is stunned to find a handwritten letter from Hunter waiting for her. After taking a few days to process the letter she decides to text Hunter to let him know it had arrived. But then there was silence. It turns out a can of garbanzo beans tried to foil their reunion by launching itself out of the kitchen cabinet and onto Hunter's phone sitting on the counter below. Hunter had not yet been able to get his phone repaired, so he didn't receive the text. Luckily, that can of beans was no match for Julie and she soon got in touch with Hunter. Texts quickly became multi-hour phone calls and multi-hour phone calls soon became cross-country visits. At least this time they both lived in major cities (Julie in Philadelphia and Hunter close to San Francisco), so visits now only required one nonstop flight. From the very beginning, it was clear to both Hunter and Julie that reviving their friendship would quickly turn into a very serious relationship on track for marriage. And soon, on yet another Fateful Friday, Hunter flew across the country to surprise Julie. This time when Julie opened her front door there wasn't a letter waiting for her, but Hunter himself with a ring and NO BEANS. Julie of course said yes, which brings us all to this lovely wedding website. We are excited to celebrate with you this coming November! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
