Great for walking or renting bikes! This trail extends all the way down from Arlington, VA to Purcellville, VA. In the Arlington area the trail connects to the Mt. Vernon Trail, where you can parallel the Tidal Basin and see some of the DC skyline. Tom and I have truly enjoyed bike rides here.
A great way to see the city of Washington, DC, whether walking or cycling!
We did go here on our first date. We had a blast! There are many trails to choose from, from the flat C&O Canal Path to some of the more rigorous climbs. If you prefer simply looking at the falls, don't miss the vistas from the overlook. Ask Julia for the "secret" trailhead near the visitor's center for a beautiful, easier day hike.
A favorite hike of Julia's and Tom's, Turkey Run has free admission and is open year-round dawn to dusk. It is a hidden gem, with lovely views of the Potomac and a trail right up close to the riverbed.
Julia's favorite Smithsonian. Free admission. Let us know what exhibits you like the best!
A beautiful basilica and pilgrimage site. Don't miss the many side altars in the main sanctuary. Tom and Julia finished their Crossroads pilgrimage here, and Tom took Julia to a special morning of prayer before their betrothal ceremony.
Come for an hour or two and watch the planes take off from and land at Reagan National Airport! Julia and Tom will be living about a mile away, as well.
Amazing place to go for many different interests. There is a model of the underground catacombs to see that is likened to those in the early Church. Daily Mass, adoration, and confession may be available as well depending on the day you go.
Want a wonderful drive out West? Marker Miller Orchards is about an hour away from Washington, DC, but a beautiful drive if you take Route 7. Julia and Tom have driven that route on the way to Julia's grad program, and enjoyed the scenery. Apple picking will be right in season at the time of our wedding!
