It all began in 2015, when Hazel and Josh met as students at Murrieta Mesa High School in California. After a year of being schoolmates, Josh claims to have had a huge crush on her. Hazel doesn't believe it because they rarely spoke during the school year, and Josh never did anything with what he was claiming he had that time. They went their separate ways after graduation, with Josh joining the army. Fast forward to February 2021, when Josh reached out to Hazel, taking the chance to finally do what he didn't do in high school: ask her out. Little did he know, he had just found the one.

Josh and Hazel decided to take a road trip to San Francisco on July 22, 2023, to celebrate their second year anniversary. On their first full day at SF, Hazel noticed that Josh was acting suspiciously. He seemed very nervous but at the same time, trying to keep to cool. While walking around the Fine Arts Museum on the 23rd, Josh's plan went into action. He had it all set and ready. He just had to walk around to buy some time for his best man to arrive to take the photos. The ring handoff was clean, Hazel didn't see it happen. Just as Josh rounded the corner to bring her to the final location to drop to one knee, Hazel figured it all out. A lot had happened around that time, but after reaching an agreement, Josh finally proposed to Hazel at Battery Godfrey, which overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge. They concluded the day with a sunset boat through the bay to commemorate the start of the next stage in their relationship.
