Co-ed intramural basketball was just beginning. Joe and Marissa both made their way to the Rec-Plex at Fairfield University, not knowing that this game would be different than the many games they played before. Joe got there first, tying his shoes for the fifth or sixth time. When he looked up, he saw a girl with big hazel eyes walk in and asked a friend, is she on our team? His response was yes, her name is Marissa. Joe proceeded to call dibs as long as she was single. As the game went on, Joe actively tried to high five Marissa every chance he could and told her to keep shooting. He nicknamed her the Fairfield JR Smith. Marissa took herself out of the game and Joe seized the opportunity for their first one on one time. In hopes that Joe could remember her name, he audibly repeated Marissa Marissa Marissa, may I add, to her face- she may have thought in that moment, that he was a bit off. Little did Joe know, Marissa's friends were making heart signals to her from the other side of the court. A few more games had passed before Joe finally stepped up and asked Marissa out on their first date, in the most Joe way possible....via Facebook Messenger. Due to a Duke vs UNC blow out, he was late to their first date (typical Joe) but he has come a long way since then. He actually skipped coaching to make the perfect engagement happen (can you all believe it?).
