A Dating App Success Story

Jordan and Sam’s story began in early March of 2022. Jordan sought out to date within her faith, Judaism, and Sam sought out to date someone nearby, a city-slicker. Both had their dating app profiles set with the listed requirements, so when Jordan came across Samuel David, the handsome Jewish boy from Chicago, of course she swiped right. The same happened when Sam came across Jordan, the cute brunette living in West LA. Two right swipes and it was a match! When the two finally met for their first date, Jordan learned that David was Sam’s middle name and that his actual last name was very Italian and not Jewish at all! At the same time, Sam also learned that Jordan had deceived him. The truth about her, was that she was a valley girl, living about 45 minutes from where her profile said. They had cat-fished each other, but the chemistry was too strong to let that stand in their way. Jordan led the conversation, as she does, with, “I’m Jewish, I have anxiety, I have stomach issues, and I hate Donald Trump.” In other words, she talked about everything you’re not supposed to talk about on a first date: religion, mental health, tummy trouble, and politics. Sam replied, “Not Jewish, but same, same, and same. Is Saturday too early to see you again for dinner?” Two years later, Jordan and Sam drove down to Santa Barbara for a weekend getaway, where Jordan took notice at how strange and quiet Sam was acting. She had a knot in her stomach that first night, fearing that Sam was about to break up with her. The next day they had a private wine tasting planned, where the idea was to sip and snack and walk the grounds. During their walk around the vineyard, wine glasses in hand, Jordan received a message from a friend in response to one of her social posts. It said, “I miss wine.” Jordan took this as a hint that her friend was pregnant and spent the next five minutes frantically attempting to FaceTime her. Sam on the other hand spent the next 5 minutes trying to convince Jordan to put her phone away and enjoy the view. With a “But she could be pregn…” Jordan realized Sam was down on one knee. Jordan thought he was faking it, because yes, Sam had once fake proposed at the airport. She gave him a gentle smack on the arm and begged him to stand up. Instead, he withdrew a small box from his black vest pocket, and there was the ring. Jordan burst into tears. It was only later that Sam learned that the tree he proposed in front of, was the same tree that Jordan was standing in front of in the profile picture he swiped right on two years earlier. Some things are meant to be.
