We met through my best friend’s sister, Angie, who Jordan happened to work with at the time. One day Angie asked Jordan if he was single, and interested in meeting someone she knew that could “tolerate him”. She arranged a number swap and we started texting later that day. After several nights of late phone conversations we had our first date. Jordan picked one of his favorite restaurants, The Salted Pig in Riverside and chose a movie he thought I’d like, the Murder On The Orient Express. Our time at the restaurant flew by, we laughed and talked the entire night. We both knew we found something special. Now, here we are five years later more in love than ever and excited to begin this next chapter in our lives.
It was Christmas morning and we have a tradition of going up to the snow each year. This year the weather was a little odd, with freezing rain and then multiple days of rain that followed, there wasn’t much snow to be found. We set out heading toward Mt. Rainier, searching for snow and ended up driving about twice as far as we had the prior year. Eva was getting a little frustrated by the long drive, and right then I knew that the proposal would be much better if it was a real turning point in the day. Eva’s best friend Lupe was with us and was absolutely in on the plan the whole time. She was our designated photographer and nothing else as far as Eva knew, a total surprise. We pulled up to a big patch of snow and parked, got ready and headed up the hill. We made a snowman, and I picked out a good spot to propose on a clean patch of snow where we took a few photos together. Right when Eva had just about enough snow for the day, Lupe asked her to turn and grab one more big handful of snow. When she turned back I was on one knee with a ring in my hand and asked if she would marry me. Eva burst into tears right away and hugged me, tried on the ring and was all smiles the rest of the day.
