Sarah and I met on January 25th, 2018 at Winthrop BCM after being introduced by a mutual friend (thanks Neely!). Immediately, I knew that Sarah would be an important part of my life but I had no idea that we would be getting married someday! The first thing I noticed about Sarah were her incredible blue eyes, I felt like I could look at them all day! Throughout the night, I noticed her sweet spirit and effortless humor and was crushing pretty hard by the time I left. Over the next few weeks, we got to know each other, had a pretty awkward weekend at a BCM conference, and went on our first date on Valentine’s Day of all days. No pressure at all! Over the next year and a half, I grew to deeply respect and love Sarah for how selfless, caring, determined, and talented she is. We’ve gone on countless adventures together, lost our voices at so many concerts, and had a lot of sunset Moe’s picnics! I knew without a doubt that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. So, while she was away in Puerto Rico for the summer, I was blessed enough to get her parents’ blessing and we planned a “dreamy” proposal (in Sarah’s own words). Between the rain making us change our plans and the restaurant taking forever to get us our food and almost making us miss the sunset, I was pretty nervous by the time I finally got to ask her! But, as you can probably guess, she said yes! Engagement has been such a fun season for us and I can’t wait to take on the next stage of life with my Best Friend in the entire world!
I was in my freshman year of college and I was not looking for a boyfriend, but God had a different plan in mind… My best friend told me that an old friend of hers was the SCBCM state president (collegiate ministry) and was coming to visit our BCM one Thursday. I didn’t know what I was expecting but I got so much more. After we met, we chatted for about two weeks and went through a VERY awkward weekend conference together. At the end of the conference, he asked me out on a date. I was crazy enough to say yes to a first date on Valentine’s Day but honestly I would not change a single thing. We talked and laughed and ate Outback and Sonic Slushies. It was the best night. From there we continued on with a long distance relationship between Rock Hill and Greenwood, driving two hours each way once a week. We did all we could do just to spend a couple hours a week with each other. It wasn’t easy but he was worth it. Over the past (almost) two years I have had the privilege to be by his side to get to know him, grow with him, and love him more than I could imagine. On August 1, 2019, only two days after I returned home from Puerto Rico, John Michael Alexander asked me to be his wife. I cried and said yes and then we celebrated with family and friends. Now, on July 18, I get to step into a new role and go on the adventure of a lifetime with my best friend. No matter how awkward I was at first, and let me tell you I was SUPER awkward, I would never change a thing about our story. I love him.
